    Two things,

    I highly doubt that both apps will get approval to the app store on the first try.

    1. Grand dialer had to change the color of the dialer to green as to not conflict with the real apple blue dialer. Your dialer is blue.

    2. I thought you couldn’t submit an app to the app store that was called free, it had to go by the term “lite.”

    I hope along with everyone else that it gets accepted, but I highly doubt it

    Are you aware that Google already blocked another third-party iPhone app from that was using the SMS APIs?

    +1 for the preview of upcoming features.. :) planned feature list! and just one question. the sms feature of the premium works over internet connection of your phone, rt? not by sending sms through the 406 numbers, i mean

    @yeehaa
    I believe the setup would logically be that in the premium version it connects via the web to your sms to send out to whatever contact, and then when they reply it’ll come back to you as a 406 number with that contacts name… I think.

    Correct – It is sent via the internet. Pending one of your active forwarding numbers is your iPhone, any reply will come in via the 406 number and the iPhone will take over.

    Search for “Free” in the App Store… :)

    I am aware of the dialer keypad – I have something on hot standby if it gets denied for this. The buttons are black btw.

    Anyone else think that it is sad/pathetic that we have to tip-toe around Google and Apple? By “we” I do mean the super loyal fan/user that anyone on this board likely happens to be. The very people who’s loyalty is the reason these companies are so successful. Apple should only be so happy as to have someone developing this sort of app for their platform. And who cares if it conflicts with their phone app. If anything they should be thrilled that you are using it to make even more calls on their device rather than say using your home phone or Skype etc. As for Google the same goes for them. They should only be so happy to have an app that shifts more sms through their servers. Isn’t that the point? The more data they have the more ads they can run which will more than pay for their sms costs. It seems that if someone can’t easily initiate GVoice sms messages from their phone, they are just going to skip over using GVoice for their sms altogether.

    @openstep
    I hear ya…SMS sending still works on GV Mobile, for now…

    I don’t Think google will block the sms because anybody using this app is a part of Google Voice Beta, meaning if you dont have an account the app is useless to you, where as the infinite sms app anyone with a gmail account could use it therefor costing google money.

    @Anonymous
    I’m in talks with Google – that’s the point I am conveying to them. It’s not an open free for all – either you use the Google Voice mobile site or my app, what diff is it? I’ll do all I can to keep it in…

    If denied… there’s always cydia. Us jailbreakers won’t mind a damn bit.

    March 29th, 2009 at 13:10

    I agree with Jan – if Apple gives you too many hoops to jump through for this, I’d go with Cydia

  16. March 29th, 2009 at 13:33

    Cydia doesn’t have the out reach that App Store does.

  17. hwnstyle21
    March 29th, 2009 at 16:44

    if it doesn’t get through the approval will you consider Cydia as an outsource? I would love to use the Premium service.

    hahaha i LOVE that post

    @sean
    I completely agree, it does not have the outreach that the app store does, but what it does have is an audience that would pay for the app itself, and you would not have the 30% app store royalties to pay. I’m not saying stick strickly to cydia, but if the appstore denies it, contact a repo like big boss or even Saurik himself or perhaps MMI (mod my I dot com) and get it on there while jumping thru the app store flaming hoops of approval. and once it’s done, you could leave or remove it from cydia. ID software is doing something exactly like it with Wolfenstien 3D, one version on the app store, one version on cydia… Just a thought.

    March 29th, 2009 at 21:15

    I would buy it on Cydia if apple holds it up. I’d even pay $9.99 to help offset the smaller reach.

  21. March 29th, 2009 at 22:18

    I’ll consider all my options, but it’s getting in the App store. :)

    Yeah, there’s no way they can reject this app now:

    First of all Sean I would like to thank you for working on this. It is a much needed app. It looks beautiful! I do have one suggestion from studying your screenshots. I noticed the “Call” and “End Call” buttons apear as though they do not have the same font or that the font was adjusted in the “End Call” example to squish into that button space. This is noticeable when I compare the “C” in “C”all to the “C” in End “C”all. The End Call C looks longer. So why not just use the word “End” and not the entire phrase “End Call”? Thats really what all apps and phones say anyway. Seems to me the word Call in End Call is superfluous. Just a suggestion.

    I am a photographer and have designed my own website as well as others. I work in technology a portion of each year and would be interested in beta testing for you. I understand you are full on beta testers as of now but if you require more in the future please add me to your list. Looking forward to the release of your app!

    Haha – you caught me. That was me trying to do the job of my artist, Jake. Shortly after 1.0 is released, 1.01 will update the keypad and fix this issue. :)

    any idea on how long the approval process usually takes? i dont see them rejecting it since the grandialer was approved and this is similar.

    cant wait to get this app!!!

  27. March 30th, 2009 at 20:10

    It varies…soon I hope

    Sean,

    Very much looking forward to release. Check out the interface for the new Skype application, it’s visually quite attractive. I’d like to request you start a new thread for additional application features to be built into updated versions, such as a “greeting” button to change voicemail greeting, similar to regular iphone applicaiton, and a Google 411 button built someplace into application, among others. I’m sure your readers have lots of great ideas, and have ideas that could help make your program the best available for Google Voice, hands downs! Thanks!

    @mischievous
    I’ve seen the Skype app. It does look great – my artist Jake and I are working on a UI overhaul. Keep in mind I am only one person and actually have a real job – this stuff is all in my spare time. :) I do plan on implementing some form of a feature request page.

    i love you for making this app but that keyboard….eww =/ and the end call button would look better if it just said end like Jasper said. just use the same keyboard as granddialer? it was much better looking!

    @Ethan
    We are working on it. We’re going rotary style in the next version. Haha :)
