And the wait begins…again. So it looks like the free version might come out before the premium…
Nice job Sean. You are clearly on top of this project so you are destined to get through the Apple machine eventually. Free (or “lite”) before Premium…that would be frustrating. I haven’t done the jailbreak yet but this app might cause me to finally take that plunge. It’s the easy voicemail access that is really needed on the phone. Initiating SMS is also important but I’m a bit concerned that if we become too reliant then GV is going to cut access as noted in previous posts. They’d only be hurting themselves though.
Hopefully they’ll let it breeze through now that you’ve made that change. You got any beta copies hanging around I can use until then?
Thanks for being so diligent! I don’t have my iPhone jail-broken, so I am hoping Apple will be cooperative this time!!
Thanks!
i dont get it. why not go with cydia in the meantime?
because he doesnt want to, you want it on cydia then you write an app and put it there.
thanks for the work Sean, i am chomping at the bit to get this app installed. looks like i may have to go with the free one until the premium app comes out.
I’m not only jailbroken, but unlocked and using on tmobile. I only spend 60 bucks a month for my phone service because GV is my main number and it’s added as a my faves #. I’d be fine with it on cydia! But to be clear, I want it more on the app store, why? cuz the developer deserves the biggest audience for this app he can get. Personally, I’m of the opinion that a non jailbroken iphone is only half as good as fully jailbroken iphone. I already have MMS, copy/paste, video recording, html in my sig from the mail app, custom themes for my iphone, the ability to watch more video sites than just youtube, but also dailymotion and more, torrent downloading, nes/snes/gameboy/genesis/GBA emulation and most importantly for me, tethering. Not to mention that I can run apps in the background if wanted. I understand the fear of jailbreaking, I don’t agree with it, I think that it’s ridiculous, but just being able to do half of what I posted above, is worth it…. to me. Just my opinion.
P.s. Sean, you still fucking rock. Keep fighting the good fight.
Ok dude, your app is great and I love it and I haven’t even used it. But you must chill. I’m not sure how Apple views the politics Cydia and telling them they are full of bullshit might not be a good idea. However, I agree, it sounds like bullshit to me. Never the less, don’t go rouge yet. The top 3 blog posts are not painting Apple in the greatest light. So lets try not to piss off the picky little prick who told you your recents icon was off and give him another reason to reject your app. So I guess the advice I am giving you (even though you aren’t asking
is… try not to fight against your own accomplishments. The good news is.. at least you know there is no serious argument with the functionality of your app. And screw Cydia. Cydia is great for apps we like to use that will never get approved (E.g. Cycorder) but it won’t get you the coverage you want. Your app will be approved soon. And as soon as Google Voice is released worldwide you would have piggy backed on the most ground breaking communications breakthrough in years from a company that has the sum total of human knowledge at their fingertips. You’re going to make bank Sean.
Re; My previous post – WORD TO THE WISE – This was just discovered in the last couple of days.
iPhone SDK Agreement Prohibits Jailbreaking
Yes, you read the headline correctly. Apple has outlined in their new iPhone Developer Program License Agreement that developers can not be associated with jailbreaking in any way, shape, or form.
This means that registered developers are no longer able to jailbreak their own phones, assist in the jailbreaking process, or distribute their applications in any way other than the App Store or Ad Hoc.
This seems more like a scare tactic than anything else. Apple is simply trying to prevent registered developers from helping out the iPhone Dev Team as well as trying to impede the growth of Cydia and other third party application distribution outlets. There is no way to tell what Apple actually can or will do to developers who get caught assisting the jailbreak community. If you are a registered developer and still want to participate in jailbreaking, simply err on the side of caution, because you don’t want Apple’s superb legal teaming coming after you.
You can understand what Apple is trying to do here, but their efforts may be futile. The iPhone Dev Team along with the rest of the community will not go down without a fight!
Saw that too.. Any word on the status?
@Jan
Nothing yet
Hopefully you hear something today… A release would be great. Then I’d be able to fully convert to my GV number. Good Luck.
Will it have push notifications once 3.0 is released?
@Dennis
Push notification would require me hosting a server to push out notifications – more important, me having access to your account to check when you get an SMS, call, etc. I don’t have any plans currently to support this.
Thanks for the response, Sean. So I guess that means that, realistically speaking, a push-enabled GV app would have to be run by Google itself?
@Dennis Correct. The concept is appealing though…
It is the coolest site,keep so!
