    How about landscape keyboard for SMS texting, is that possible?

    @REL Until OS 3, landscape keyboard is not available without building my own keyboard, which I won’t do.

    @REL Furthermore, people have gone 2+ years without landscape keyboard, why is it so important now? ;)

    Ok…
    1) Love the new SMS UI/layout (maybe the red icon badge could notify of unread messages when you first sign in?). Not at this point, but also would be nice in the future to choose colors or have themes for SMS (Green/Grey, Blue/Grey), I dunno, I’m just a fan of green, no biggie though.
    2) I really like the new keypad, MUCH cleaner!
    3) Love the new voicemail UI/layout, similar to Apple’s voicemail layout (Callback & Delete buttons, :-) ), but would like to see a time stamp of some sort… and the red icon notifier/badge (yeah, I mentioned that in a private email already :-P ) to display unread messages upon sign in. I’d even like to know how many unread voicemail’s I have when I log out, in case I forgot to look (red icon badge on GV Mobile icon?).

    4) Also, Settings menu cleaner!

    Over all, I LOVE the update! Much cleaner and a bit faster then the previous version. I can honestly say at this point, I’m glad I choose to go with Sean’s GV Mobile over other available Google Voice apps.

    Well done Sean!

    Regards,

    It’s great. Just a Favourite callers menu short to replace the iPhone phone.

  10. May 27th, 2009 at 20:42

    Sean – really nice work on the update. The whole experience is much improved. The one feature that I would love to see is the ability to turn on/off the “Do Not Disturb” feature. Keep it up and thank you!

    Excellent. All changes very slick and much appreciated. Thanks.

    Well, here’s something. In order to update the SMS conversations (the message from the other party) I’ve had to shut down the App and open it again. It doesn’t update just by staying on the SMS screen. Am I missing something?

  13. May 27th, 2009 at 21:08

    @Skribe Click the circle refresh icon at the top left?

  14. BigUps
    May 27th, 2009 at 21:17

    Great work Sean. Very nice update. I assume this app is OS 3.0 compliant and because of that will notifications be an option once OS 3.0 is available? Is AT&T putting the kabash on SMS notifications from apps?

    Again, great work and thanks for the continued support.

  15. Skribe
    May 27th, 2009 at 21:17

    Okay. I had auto refresh on, which I thought would bring in the message as soon as they sent it, but I can click the refresh when the iphone sms alert appears. Thanks!

  16. May 27th, 2009 at 21:20

    @BigUps Doing push notifications won’t be possible for GV Mobile as I would need access to your account ( and everybody else’s) to see when SMSs come in…imagine the servers I would need! :)

  17. May 27th, 2009 at 21:22

    @Skribe Auto refresh doesn’t work that way exactly…that would require realtime refreshing to see when SMS’s come in…would be a huge dent on resources. Just imagine the mail app refreshing non-push accounts every second. Ouch.

    May 27th, 2009 at 21:50

    :( i was really hopping for push notifications for this application

  19. May 27th, 2009 at 21:57

    Awesome update!

    As for “Furthermore, people have gone 2+ years without landscape keyboard, why is it so important now?” — because it has been annoying for 2+ years! The keyboard is one of the reasons I don’t use my iPhone much for typing…but where I do have the landscape, the pain goes away. I just wish there was a way to get a bluetooth keyboard for this sucker!

  20. May 27th, 2009 at 22:05

    @clify No I understand…hehe…wait till 3.0 comes out…I’ll incorp. it in.

    Is there a lag for some users to be updated? Strangely, mine hasn’t updated yet.

  22. May 27th, 2009 at 23:02

    Sean,

    Great app! Any chance of adding the ability to turn on/off the do not disturb feature to the GV Mobile settings page?

    Thanks,

    Wil

  23. May 27th, 2009 at 23:33

    @AreJayOne Good feedback. Thanks man, really appreciate it.

  24. May 27th, 2009 at 23:34

    @Jack Seems like Apple’s servers are having some issues. I’m noticing things fluctuating in and out…check back in the AM I suppose.

  25. May 27th, 2009 at 23:35

    @Wil Yea…Next update should include this…

    Sean,

    Even though I’ve been “snarky” @ times, I’ll say “FABULOUS” updates. Look forward to continued refinement for 3.0 version. Request to add toggle between multiple accounts feature in Settings.

  27. May 28th, 2009 at 06:41

    @Mischievous You’re great man…:)

    Sean using the SMS through GV Mobile will that strictly stain the GV account or still use your SMS on your cell phone’s account?

  31. May 28th, 2009 at 08:51

    @George All through Google Voice. Shouldn’t hit your cell phone’s account. If you have your cell phone # setup as a forwarded number and it’s enabled, I would suggest turning the SMS option off so Google doesn’t forward SMS messages to your phone.

    Got it thanks Sean!

    awesome job sean, I never expected push notifications for this, i dont get how any developer can afford the time/money to run servers to afford push notifications. I love the SMS going strictly through GV.

    GREAT JOB!!!

    May 28th, 2009 at 12:29

    weirdly, still no update for me. I know you can’t do anything about that, I’m just curious if other users are experiencing the same thing?

  35. May 28th, 2009 at 12:37

    my iStore is not showing an update for GV Mobile. What gives?

  36. May 28th, 2009 at 14:58

    @Joe Ponte Have you guys tried both iTunes and App Store? They are never synced…although both have the updated version for me.

  37. May 28th, 2009 at 16:14

    Sean, just downloaded th update. It works fabulously! UI feels much cleaner and well designed. The artwork is great, and the new SMS feature works reliably. I’m sure that you’ll continue to refine it and make it even better.

  38. Jack
    May 28th, 2009 at 17:05

    Yeah, so I realize I had to update my iPhone software from 2.2 to 2.2.1, bet that fixes it.

  39. May 28th, 2009 at 21:55

    Is there an uprade path from 1.0 to 1.2, or do I have to pay for the newer version?

    Thanks.

    May 28th, 2009 at 22:56

    @Chris It’s an update. Yesterday mine wasn’t showing it as an update but today it did. I think you just have to wait it out. Great update though.

  41. May 29th, 2009 at 08:08

    Still not showing up for me. Wonder if it has anything to do with my phone being jailbroken?

  42. May 29th, 2009 at 08:52

    @Joe Ponte This version needs OS 2.2.1. Is that what you’re running?

  43. Kenneth Trueman
    May 29th, 2009 at 09:08

    sweet ! Congrats on this one Sean. Just bought here in Canada and it looks great… very polished.

  44. May 29th, 2009 at 11:02

    @Kenneth Trueman Thank you sir!

  45. May 29th, 2009 at 11:17

    I would really like it if it didn’t show archived SMS. Maybe a settings option? And how about the ability to archive SMS?

  46. Noah
    May 29th, 2009 at 11:49

    Any way to get more settings options (taking off sms forwarding to a phone, blcoking callers/spammers, etc like there is on the google voice website? What about its on contact list as opposed to using the iphones native contact list? Thanks so much for it though. I am loving the UI and SMS improved ability. Thanks Sean!

  47. May 29th, 2009 at 13:24

    i have version 2.2

  48. May 29th, 2009 at 15:04

    @Noah I can do that…look for that stuff in a future update…

  49. May 29th, 2009 at 15:05

    @Joe Ponte I think if you sync with iTunes and do the update thing, it will load up 2.2.1 for ya. I don’t think the update will show until then.

    Any way to get any kind of SMS notification similar to fring is set up with IMs or nimbuzz, ring and vibrate respectively.
