    Sean … is it technically possible for you to program the iPhone earphone clicker to work with GV Mobile? One of the downsides of using Google Voice is having to take the phone out of your pocket (like when you’re driving) and push the dialpad to accept and answer your call. It would be great to get normal iPhone functionality where you can click (and maybe click again?) to answer Google Voice calls without using the phone itself. Thanks.

    @CM
    Don’t google voice calls ring as a standard call anyway? Their servers just act as a virtual operator, the call coming in is going to ring as a standard call, with your google voice number or the caller’s # passed through.

    @marshall
    If I’m wrong please let me know, but I believe incoming calls on Google Voice only ring as “standard calls” if you disable Call Presentation. Unfortunately that also disables other key features, including Google Voice’s voice mail & transcription system, etc. So my question remains, can you enjoy all of those Google Voice features hands free on your iPhone? (i.e. use the earphone clicker to access Google Voice calls)

    Whats the difference between pic 1 and 2 ?

  15. May 19th, 2009 at 17:21

    @shanghei clearly megan’s name is on pic 1 where as sean makes his presence known on pic 2…it’s quite obvious then that these are not the same pic….and that’s just ONE of the differences…i’m not even going to go into unknown……hope that helps!!

    @CM
    call presentation is for you to listen in on calls after you have answered the standard call. It allows you to listen in before actually “answering” the call. It’s still a standard call. In either case, you would have to interact with the phone, as you have to send tone signals for the options. the SDK for iPhone doesn’t allow you to intercept calls, because your applications aren’t running in the background. The only way to do what you are describing is to leave sean’s app running all the time. Here’s google’s blurb on call presentation:

    Turn off call presentation to answer a call directly, without hearing the call presentation audio prompts (i.e., “Press 1 to accept..”).
    If you have several forwarding phones, the first that picks up will get the call. Should a voicemail system pick up, the message will not appear in your Google Voice inbox. Learn more

    @CM
    plus, all that transcription stuff happens after the call has gone to voicemail, which you have to call your google voice number, to access your mailbox, and the voicemail/transcription goes away if another phone that you have your calls forwarded to “picks up”, meaning if it goes to some voicemail or message. remember, this app isn’t really creating another phone for you, its just an interface into their system.

    @marshallbu
    Thanks for the response (you’re not the developer right?). I figured the iPhone earphones would be off limits to developers. I knew turning off call presentation was a solution, just not the one I was looking for. Since we’re on that subject, maybe a future update of GV Mobile might provide easy access to GV Mobile settings (like turning Call Presentation off/on, etc.). Again, not sure if that is possible or not.

    oops … I meant access to Google Voice settings …

  20. May 20th, 2009 at 09:33

    @CM
    no, not the developer of GV mobile, but I am a developer :) , and an avid follower of cool projects like this. they should be able to access the settings ( maybe ), but that’s really dependent on if google gives access to that in their api

    @shanghei One of the screen shots show an unread voice mail(blue dot)

  22. May 20th, 2009 at 10:51

    @CM This is slated for a future release. I have 2 phases of development going on…incremental updates that fixes bugs and minor features and major updates :)
