    Google has already released an app for the Android and Blackberry and it looks like they are already done with the iPhone app…just waiting on Apple to approve…check out this link
    http://www.google.com/mobile/products/voice.html#p=apple

    I’m sure it wont be able to hold up to the new stuff that is coming in the update to GV Mobile however =)

    @cupcake
    What you’re doing is not cool at all man; just think about it. We are all supposed to be respectful to others, and conduct ourselves as professionals.

    Do you know what it takes to develop an application (for a mobile device)? GV Mobile is a great app, and has been well received in the iPhone community. Google is coming out with their own app is great news, but don’t you think for a sec GV Mobile is out.

    I think both apps will basically do the same thing, but they will have their differences. You’ll still find people buying GV Mobile for one major feature they must have that Google will not implement; that’s competition for you.

    It’s simply very sad to see how inconsiderate people can be. My advice to you is to be a man (or woman), retract your silly comment and apologize to Sean. I guarantee you’ll feel better afterwards. How would you feel if you were in Sean’s position.

    I know about push SEAN . .

    for other Push isnt possible unless he has access to our information and he would need huge servers and this and that to accomplish that so push isnt happening . .

    with that out the way I am interested in a clue or two if you could drop on us what might be expected . . I promise I wont tell nobody if you post it . . ;-)

    True about needing servers for push… Unless with Google putting out their actual apps for Android and Blackberry, then might of setup their system to push info.

    That is what I am hoping happened at least!=)

    @YCF

    I agree its a great app. I bought it and use it all day and I definitely respect the effort it took to develop, but I think cupcake does have a point. Whether its bashing on VoiceCentral in comments on other blogs and twitter or claiming that the official google android app is “not much competition”, he does appear to be lacking some humility.

  13. July 16th, 2009 at 20:52

    @cupcake Smug asshole – do you know me? No. If you did, you know what I’m really like.
    @Dan You only know half the story … please hold your judgement until you know the full story. If you look at their apps, which I’ve done, there isn’t much going on. Even GV from Evan for Android has more features…

    If you want push for Google Voice on the iphone it can already be done using Growl and Prowl. The author of Growl for Windows released a script for this. It is not instantaneous but it only takes around a minute or two get notified. It takes a few steps to setup but works perfectly.

    July 17th, 2009 at 08:13

    In my opinion, push notifications will either make or break GV Mobile. I don’t think Google will release push for their app considering they haven’t even released push for gmail on the iPhone. If Sean can get push out the door first, I think that will give him a HUGE competitve advantage over the rest of the apps and may be the only hope for GV Mobile if google does decide to roll out push.

    Google is about to release there own app for the iphone. It will look like the android version. I like GV Mobile but it will soon be history.

    Sean,

    Really, really solid app. Thank you! Great price too.

  19. July 17th, 2009 at 12:50

    @robert I wouldn’t be too sure about that. Google will be less likely to include some of the finer things that we/I can bring to the table. I’m sure it will cool, but I’m holding off until it’s actually out to make a judgement call. Regardless, I’ll push on making GV Mobile better. If I have to build in a SIP client to out-do their, so be it.: )

    Sean I dunno what those M-fers are talking about. Stop hating people go knock a few out in the bathroom and settle down. Sean put a hell of a program out there before the Mother Land (google) did. I canceled my SMS plan and his program has been nothing but genius. Rock out cant wait for the update.

    I don’t get it. Why do some people think a good app will vanish just because another one enters the competition? Great products exist because of competition. Think about what the iphone has done in the world of mobile devices. Apple is – and has always been – very unfair to end users, but thanks to them we’re getting great handsets from companies whose goals are to build handsets that are better than the iphone. Two years later, the iphone is still undefeated even though it suffers from two major shortcomings: one being Apple’s restrictions on the device, and two not being able to run multiple processes in the os.

    If you must know, I’m not a big fan of Apple simply because I don’t like the way they do business; But I’m a happy iphone user. I hope that clears things up, so let’s just sit back relax while we wait for the best GV mobile yet. Frankly, I can’t wait.

  27. July 17th, 2009 at 22:06

    The existing GV apps will force Google to make their 10x better…

    I know you can’t do push. But, is there a php script that I could run on my server along with php prowl to make it seem like I have push?

  30. YCF
    July 18th, 2009 at 13:26

    You guys just need to relax, and learn to read between the lines. Push among other things is coming in the next update; I can bet on it, you watch. You go Sean :-) GV Mobile rocks.

  31. July 19th, 2009 at 00:46

    I don’t think an official app means doom for GV Mobile. There’s a number of thriving AIM apps, despite AOL having a pretty feature-filled app of their own, including a free ad-supported version.

    Even if the official app blows the others out of the water (which probably won’t be the case initially), Google doesn’t seem to support the notion of people having more than one Google Voice account, so people with more than one GV number (i.e. personal and business) will need some good 3rd party apps for their other accounts. And if Sean could pull off something like integrating Gizmo, then dear God, that’s another game entirely.

  32. July 19th, 2009 at 18:45

    Yeah…what’s up with the July 13th twitter update?

  33. Sunny
    July 19th, 2009 at 22:52

    I purchased GVMobile. I live in the USA now, but my google account was created in Canada. I cannot use GVMobile yet, and had no idea that this was the case. Will there be an update to fix this issue?

  34. July 20th, 2009 at 06:34

    @YCF Dude don’t say that…jumping the gun.

  35. July 20th, 2009 at 06:35

    @Sunny Yes – but this should be fixed already. I have a number of people outside the US that can use it just fine. Shoot me an email and I’ll see what I can do.

  38. July 20th, 2009 at 14:52

    @Tim There is an update coming soon…I’m testing some push solutions – some involve running your own client that pushes the push notification out at your expense (computer), the other is me running it, which would be a monthly cost. We’ll see :)

    This sounds fascinating. Do you have any idea yet what the requirements are for our own push server? I didn’t even know Apple would allow that kind of individual ability.

  42. Clay
    July 21st, 2009 at 09:16

    I think that would involve something more along the lines of, you running a program on your computer and updates being pushed using something like Prowl.

    @Cupcake, what the hell is wrong with you? Sean provided an app that was much needed. Its an app that I rely on every single day. If google comes out with their own app, fine maybe I’ll look at it, but Google didn’t take the time to build the app when I needed it the most. Sean however took the time to build this on his own free time to help out people like myself. I am quite sure he is not getting rich on selling this app, so kudos to Sean for taking a risk and investing his precious time in building us a great app.

  44. July 21st, 2009 at 10:44

    Looking forward to a new release! I have been using this software non-stop, and it’s superb! There are a few features I’d like, if you’re taking suggestions:

    * Location-based settings: profiles which have pre-defined settings, so I don’t have to do too much tapping to adjust which phone dials, etc.
    * Auto-refresh SMS: you’re probably already working on a push notification system, but it would also be nice if the tabs had an option to auto-refresh every XX seconds, too. In the SMS tab, it would be nice if refreshing could be done within a conversation.

    These are minor issues, however, and I am working around them just fine. Thanks again! :)

    I like the idea of this app, but I find it takes a lot longer to load than the mobile gvoice website. Also, it won’t allow me to use my gizmo5 number as the # to call when making calls. The gvoice website allows for this which is something I hope you include in the coming update.

    Thanks Clay. I had never heard of prowl. Looks like that solution would be great too.

    Sean, if not push, can fetch be an option? The Mail app does this for servers that don’t push like GMail so they fetch after a certain amount of time elapses.

  48. July 22nd, 2009 at 06:50

    @Ian I have a number of people using Gimzo for call back…. just enter your gizmo 1-747-xxx number in the ‘phone to ring section.

  49. July 22nd, 2009 at 06:51

    @Isaac fetch == timely refresh … requires keeping the app open. Apple has the advantage of having mail run in the background. It’s feasible…

    @sean
    Why don’t you release a cydia version also then? iCall (icall.com) has a cydia and appstore version of their app. Their cydia version allows you to enable backgrounding and voip over 3g. They cydia store is a viable option, 3G Unrestrictor just came out ($2) and has made quite a lot of business (twitter.com/crashx). Not only are you free to do whatever you want, but you do not have to wait for the long appstore approval process..

    This is especially vital if you plan on integrating skypegizmo right into your app- backgrounder and voip over 3g IS needed.
