I’m still alive
Hey gang…my apologies for being out of touch for so long. I was stuck in the Amazon rain forest for a month…had a run in with a buffalo.
As far as GV Mobile v1.2 from the App Store no longer working – I’ve addressed this many times it seems, yet I still get emails. Google emailed me many moons ago notifying me of upcoming changes to the account login for Google Voice. I was in the process of updating GV Mobile to account for Google’s changes when Apple turned their back on US, removing GV Mobile from the App Store, preventing me to publish a fix for the login issue everyone is experiencing now. There is good news! If you jailbreak your phone, I do have GV Mobile on Cydia that works. There is no other way for me to provide an update – sorry. I have re-submitted GV Mobile to the App Store, but seeing as its been over 2 months waiting for approval, I don’t see that going anywhere soon. Send Phil Schiller (schiller@apple.com) a nice email and he might get it approved.
As for the next version, I’m still working on it, but with the lack of revenue, I’m having a tough time finding time to work on it. As you all may know, this is my night time hobby, which comes 2nd to pleasing my wife. ![]()
If you want to see movement on GV Mobile on the App Store, I urge you to email Phil @ Apple.

Good luck getting an answer, Sean doesn’t appear to be responding to much of anything on this site.
I don’t know why you made GV Mobile free. Why not continue to charge for it? The Cydia and Rock stores have other shareware titles and seem to be doing quite well.
Still waiting for an update Sean… Stuck in the Amazon rain forest again? Maybe another run with a buffalo?
Either way with Push Notification fixed on jailbroken hacktivated iphones is it possible to have push notification on the next realease of gv mobile..
To do push Sean would need to set up a server, store your google credentials, and then keep checking for a new message and then push it to you. Nah, I don’t think that’s very likely.
Not likely because Sean isn’t working on this project anymore or not likely because you can have them pushed via email or not likely for security reasons. Last post made by sean was quite some time ago. Doubt we will hear anything from him soon. Seems he’s too busy pleasing his wife with the french tickler he bought with the GV mobile donations.
I switched to the htc eris. Love android no regrets at all. Oh yea not one dropped call yet.
@I want GV Mobile 2.0 Who said I’m not working on GV Mobile anymore? This is not the case at all – 2.0 coming out on Christmas. The donations were invested into product development.
While the kid unwraps presents X-Mas Morning I’ll be madly refreshing Cydia for the GV Mobile update!
@sean Any teasers on what is new / fixed / different in 2.0?
Now that sean has provided a release date, I am really excited to see this happen! However, when I went to look for the donation link that used to be on this website, I drew a blank. Does anyone know how to go about donating to this project? It might just be that I am a total idiot, but I have tried the search function and found nothing!
Thanks,
-Alex
@sean Submit it to the App Store too. Just for giggles!
@I want GV Mobile 2.0
@I want GV Mobile 2.0 give the guy a break. without him, none of us iphone users would still be using google voice on our phones
@Brandon Without push notifications, auto refreshing, or phone.app integration it make the current iteration of GV Mobile near useless. All I was trying to do was provoke a response from Sean and it seems it finally worked. Although it didn’t answer any question regarding 2.0 other than a release date, but at least we know he is actually working on it now. It would be nice if we could get some ideas as to the new features. That way I can figure out if I want to keep pursuing this app.
I wish iphone allowed for a google voice app as integrated as Android.
@I want GV Mobile 2.0 Odds are it won’t have any kind of push notification. The cost would be too prohibitive for Sean to host his own server to store user credentials to check people’s Google Voice account. Not to mention the liability for if his server data is compromised. He’s doing this in his spare time and probably not getting much money out of it, so to expect him to host a server for push notifications is not very realistic. However, there are other way of getting Google Voice push notifications. You need to get prowl for the iPhone and then growl for your computer. You can then configure growl to send notices to prowl. Then get yourself a Google Voice notifier that takes advantage of growl. Thus your own computer becomes the push service … sort of. I’m also pretty sure I remember seeing someone else who has created a site where you can put in your Google Voice creds and they will push notification to prowl for you. Either way you can get push notification, it just probably won’t be with GV Mobile.
@Davin I am aware of the situation surrounding push notifications, I was just making a point.
Google Voice push notifications through Prowl work really, really well. I have Google Voice set up to forward SMS to an email address (gmail, naturally), which is then pushed to my own server using IMAP (with the IDLE extension for instant-ness), which then sends it off to Prowl using a little perl script. You could also forward the email to a 3rd party service that will send it to Prowl for you. I prefer more control, so I use my own machine.
Bottom line: someone sends me an SMS, it pushes to my phone within 10 seconds.
And, by editing a property list file inside the Prowl app, you can even set it up to open GV Mobile when you touch “View” on the pushed SMS notification.
‘Just me’
could u make a tutorial?
I use GV Max and it works great. My SMS notifications are pushed immediately. I highly recommend it. The way I use it, it pushes my SMS to my IM Messenger from where I reply. With the new version 4.0, you can also quickly make a Google Voice phone call to the person whom you are chatting with. It’s a great tool.
There are a couple ways to do it. One way is to have a service on you personal PC that checks Google Voice every once in a while and forwards messages to your iPhone through Prowl. Link to instructions is below.

Another option would be to use GV Max. Basically it is the same thing, except your personal machine isn’t doing the checking. It is a hosted solution, where they do the checking and send notifications to your iPhone through Prowl.

Either way you need Prowl. Which I believe is $3 in the app store.
@just me
hey i did it but how do i get an actual preview of the message when i recieve the notification?
I use a jailbroken iphone touch with google voice ->gizmoz5 ->siphon.
I used to be able to use the GV app to dial with siphon in the background to receive the call.
For some reason that stopped working.
Any ideas?
Sean, the new GV version 1.55 has lots of bugs and crashes constantly. I am unable to view the “History” or click on the “Voicemail” tab at the bottom as it will crash the GV app right away.
