GV Mobile v2.0 b6 released
January 3rd, 2010
Sorry for the delay, life happened. Changes/additions to this beta include:
- URL Handlers: gvmdial://[number], gvmsms://[number], gvm://sms, gvm://smsnew, gvm://hist, gvm://vm
- Application and Tab badges (vibrates on unread sms/vm)
- Built the “New Sms Message” view – yes, international support is there
- Added some text to the “Speaker” button – I know that button blended into the nav bar at the top making it impossible to tell if it was on/off
- Beefed up the data sync – Manual: you have to click the button to refresh, startup: refreshes all 3 tabs upon launch, startup on demand: refresh the tab you click on when you click on it, interval: for now, it refreshes every 5 minutes. I’ll add in user defined intervals later on.
- Fixed glitch with Contact groups
- Fixed Gizmo call back number issue
- Changed wording on default area code
- Fresh install jumps to add account screen vs. account list (one less button you have to click)
- Fixed issue with transcription button
Next beta should include GV settings (DND, etc), account balance (gotta figure out placement), …maybe that’s it and she’ll be ready to go.

nice! I look forward to testing this out with Insomnia this time. I wonder if the overflow bug has been fixed yet…
This is wonderful news! Glad to see everything is still moving along well. Good luck with your testing!
And right now I wish I was beta tester
@Joey: 1.X is still good to go. To be honest, version 1.X is much more stable when it comes to refreshing data.
Yo Sean, any room left for beta tester’s??
Wonder when Apple can finally have this in the App store…
@NeonCoyote Good to know. Cant wait for the revision to come. I wish Apple would get their head out of their ass
I’m psyched about the “Interval” sync option… With a low enough interval (say, 60 seconds (I know, will kill my battery)) I could turn off the PMG4-Quicksilver that currently lurks in a corner pushing me SMS and voicemails.
By the way, how does the gvmsms://[number] URL handler operate? Does it create a new SMS to that number, or does it open the most recent conversation with that number? Praying for the latter. =)
Sean
Keep up the good work. I’m quite excited for V2 – Google Voice Mobile is the only app I’ve found worth buying. Ever since you’ve announced an update is forthcoming, I’ve been checking cydia for updates daily and sometimes more frequently!
@Christopher I suppose it could work this way.
I’m seriously looking forward to this release… been using GV Mobile 1.X since its release and always hated the lack of landscape texting and copy/paste. As far as notifications of VM and SMS, I find that Prowl meets my needs by auto-forwarding notifications to Gmail, then setting up a Gmail filter that forwards to Prowl.
But I love the app, Sean, thanks for developing this!
Any chance of this app having Push or is this literally an impossibility.
@Reza look into Prowl + GVMax if you want push.
Yes, GVMax (or even better: VoiceGrowl http://googlevoice.ub3rk1tten.com/voicegrowl/ ) works extremely quickly and transparently for pushing notifications to the phone.
I have a question: is there any way that this app can simply replace the dialer altogether? What I would like is to be able to dial a number and be instantly connected, rather than having to accept a callback from my GV number through the phone app.
@Davin, thanks for the tip!
@Davin,
I use TextNow to redirect my text messages, however the servers used for the push notification are quite unreliable. It works by directing all texts sent to google voice to my user@TextNow.me
so how can I configure Prowl on the iPhone to open TextNow app after I direct google voice to send it to my Prowl account?
When can we expect the app to be on Cydia?
Eagerly waiting for this update in Cydia!! I check for it couple of times every single day since I read about it. It’s easily one of the best app in Cydia…reason enough to jailbreak…a must have app.
Keep up the great work, can’t wait for the update(s)!
I’m looking forward to this update. BTW, I get push by taking advantage of Gmail’s push capability, and Boxcar, a free app. GV sends an email to my Gmail account when I get an SMS text, and Gmail then forwards the email to Boxcar. Boxcar sends me a push notification.
GV mobile was the reason I originally jailbroke my iPhone, and I use it frequently. GV2 will be well worth the cost to me.
I also use Prowl with the iPhone to get push notifications for GV Mobile. Question though… is there any way to get GV Mobile to launch from Prowl?
Keep up the great work Sean.
@Jared Now that the new version has URL handlers, Zach West will no doubt add GV as an app to redirect to in the Prowl settings.
I can’t wait for this app to finally re-hit the “shelves” in the Apple app store. I have missed using it ever since it was sinfully and unjustly pulled.
Why not using this with http://4push.com ?
@Christopher Sounds great to me, can’t wait. Now if there was only the option to donate and become a beta tester
weird after a few months of no issues, my v1 of gv just stopped working. Come on version 2 !!!!!!!!!!
@Jared You could always just add your own URL handler in the current version’s Info.plist… I looked through the list of handlers supported already by Prowl and just picked an app I didn’t think I’d ever use, and duplicated that URL scheme. It’s an ok workaround for the time being.
@Reza I’m not sure. I don’t have it set up right now. All I know is that that is best way to do it right now.
Still waiting for an update. Looking for a release date. Not a fake one this time please.
@I want GV Mobile 2.0 The testers are still testing. Com’on dude, give me a break. This is only my hobby.
Thanks for the time you put in Sean, most of us appreciate it and donate to the cause. It would be nice if you could prevent #29 from grabbing 2.0 for such stupid comments.
@Daniel Yeah I know – you guys keep me going.
Sean I believe the correct usage is C’mon or “come on” I don’t think com’on is proper. Thanks for the work buddy can’t wait to get 2.0
^lol. Did you really have to correct him. Haha.
@Kingoftowns, yeah no one cares.
My anticipation for GV Mobile 2.0 is almost unbearable! I’m not saying this in a “Jeez Sean hurry up wtf!” way… More of a “this is a hell of a product, I appreciate your hard work because I love this app” kinda way. I have RSS Growler set to follow your site and twitter so I can give you $2 as soon as this hits Cydia.
Thanks sir!
Just wondering whether there will be any chance of increasing the beta users for the GV 2.0. I have been a GV user (got it through paypal when Sean was offering the promotional codes) and would love to use GV 2.0.
This update looks fantastic! Thanks for all your hard work Sean.
Yo Sean, I absolutely LOVE GVMOBILE 1.2. FREE texting woot! Could you possible tell us the ETA for GV Mobile 2.0 on Cydia. This might stop me from checking Cydia everyday. >_> Thanks!
Wait, will this be a free update or a completely new paid app?
@Max Sean has stated several times that GV Mobile 2.0 is a paid update. It will cost $1.99, totally worth it even for those who paid for 1.x when it was on the App Store (like me)
@Kris: Ok, thanks.
Ok so you tweeted the release and you’re blogging about it. What am I missing here? Hmmm the app? Come on man give us the straight scoop.
Also I want to mention. I paid for this app in the Apple app store. What are you doing for the paying customers who got shafted?
@Geebs: He has released the beta testing version, not the final version. Until everything is in tip-top shape, the app won’t go into the CYDIA store. That’s why he’s letting testers report bugs before he finalizes everything. Just be patient. As for those who have paid for the app, he has mentioned (I believe somewhere in this blog) that it is difficult to tell who did and did not buy the app, so he probably can’t do anything about it at the moment. Give him some time and he’ll figure out what to do.
It’s between this and VoiceCentral Black Swan. Whatever comes out first is what I’m gonna buy. I’m so glad landscape text was added for those of us without “bitch hands.”
Sean i have to say thanks for everything!!!!!!!!!!!
If it wasnt for you, i would not text at all period dot. Amazing job on your part and I have to say this is my most used app and my favorite app ever.
2.0 seems like its perfect. I can’t wait for it.
The only small suggestion I have (Idk if its a lot of work or not and it doesnt matter if you do it or not I still love the app) is quickreply (integration sounds like a stretch). I would pay $20 for that feature
~Egypt~
Where does one go to become a beta tester? I down to provide feedback on this as Im a heavy GV user? For some reason SMS mode on v1.2 shutdowns GVmobile.
