GV Mobile faceoff…already?

April 9th, 2009

Tough times in the consulting business, I see. ;) Yes, even before hitting the App Store, GV Mobile was in a battle with another app, VoiceCentral. GV Mobile did undoubtedly come out on top according to Greg’s review. Going forward, all new features will be announced well after the submission to Apple. There is some amazing stuff coming in the next release. Check out Greg’s article: Battle Of The Google Voice iPhone Apps: VoiceCentral vs. GV Mobile.

    I do like the voicemail interface on the other screen…., surprisingly the article didn’t share what features you’re improving for future releases. Both should be priced at least $5.

    Just submitted to digg. hope you don’t mind.

    @mischievous For an app initially built for only voice mails, it sure as hell better have a better voice mail setup. lol
    New features won’t be announced until sent to Apple. It’s easy to follow…

    Sean I have a question regarding SMS, will it show all SMS received by pulling it from the web? so if i turn off forwarding SMS to my iphone will they still show up in GV Mobile?

  10. April 10th, 2009 at 11:22 | #10

    @Kingoftowns As it stands, GV Mobile just sends SMS.

    @sean
    I would give you $20 if it would receive SMS as well as send from GV Mobile. It would save me a boatload off my SMS plan.

  12. April 10th, 2009 at 13:03 | #12

    @Anonymous $21 and I’m sold .. hehe

    oh ok thanks, thats the reason i was asking was if it recieved there would be no reason to need sms from at&t. either way i am dying for it to get released.

    thanks

    Wasn’t aware Voice Central was out there, but GV Mobile still looks like the winning horse. Curse you Apple Store, hurry up already!

    I don’t get it… there are SMS unlimitted plans below 20$… Anyway, going oafter voice over an IP over cellular is not a $2.99 business. This will not last – the wireless spectrum is very expensive and can’t support this. This initiatives will be stopped or will go higher in price. Remember you are killing a lucrative business for carriers – voice – and this pays for all those towers and spectrum … It’s ok now cause it is small.

    SMS goes over the voice network, I’m already paying for the voice network why should I need to pay for a plan to send text? Carriers will keep charging for it as long as they can. I’m paying for data so Google allows us to send sms over the data network (per se). With data does it matter what it is its still data? I’m all for GV Mobile supporting SMS both ways.

  17. April 10th, 2009 at 14:12 | #17

    @nobody I have absolutely no sympathy for the carriers…at all. Please don’t bring that garbage to my site. GV Mobile is not a VoIP solution – yet.

    @sean You tell him!

  19. April 10th, 2009 at 16:52 | #19

    @Dennis That was a bit harsh…

    nobody has any sympathy for the carriers… I am only saying this will not work long term and even without sympathy we need the data to work and so we need to pay more for data. The $25-35 or whatever it is for unlimited data over the air is not enough to cover the business. Comcast charges me $45 for 200GB on land line. Think about it how much it costs the operator to build and pay for the spectrum. It is logic…

    nobody obviously has no idea how this industry works, the actual capability of the infrastructure already in place, and how much it really is profiteering off of customers. An app like GV mobile will hardly put a dent in profits, NO provider will go after sean kovacs. Long Life GV mobile

    @Quash Good thing you said that before me…lol

    Why did you delete your last post (Hiatus) Sean?

    @Daniel PR nightmare… :)

    @Daniel I’ve got the same question about the Hiatus post. Sure hope development is going to continue.

    @Quash To further your point take a look at this article. http://bit.ly/ipQ0A It’s pretty ridiculous just how lucrative this portion of their business is. I understand the logic in them being concerned about too much data usage but going after SMS?…

    shoot, this whole app store thing is a royal pain. So many hoops to jump through to make apple happy, even Cydia takes a few days these days. I miss the days of “try at your own risk”

  32. April 11th, 2009 at 20:53 | #32

    @sean
    It was the right thing to do. Here’s hoping you make enough money off GV Mobile that you can take that rest in St.Thomas. :)

    Best, Jim

    GV Dialer dropped it’s price down, but still not even tempting.

    Im suprised with all the complaints of GV dialer in the app store that this thing even passed Apple inspection…Grand Dialer never had these issues…in fact, since I havent switched to google voice yet, my grand dialer still works to make outgoing calls and recieves calls, For about 2 days it wasnt working

    I finally got the upgrade notice but I’m still holding off moving to GV until GV Mobile is out. I like making calls from Grand Dialer and don’t want to waste $$ on an app like GV Dialer as a bridge.
