Damn, my grand dialer just stopped working today. I was working fine up to yesterday, I would love to have this app, as soon as it gets in

I am buying this when it comes out as well! I hear it will be $2.99 for the Premium version, but there will also be a lite version too? I’m so excited!

will this allow for a quick method of blocking people you don’t want to hear from? AKA can i quickly send the lawn care company that keeps calling me to voice mail via gv mobile or would I still need to go to the web site?

@J Not initially- I’m assuming your referring to ‘Block Caller’?

i am definitely going to get the $2.99 version sight unseen. looks like your doing a lot of work just to keep us updated.
one thing though, you might have to change the name. i googled gvmobile to find this site and someone all ready has gvmobile.com it’s a paint program for the windows mobile os.

This looks like a great app. It’s missing the favorite feature that the phone app has. Also, I agree with the other poster about the keyboard, it’s not that pretty. Not a big deal, but still think it would be best to clean it up.

why the app doesn’t have a ledger of the incoming and outgoing sms messages, just like the web mobile version of GV???

yep, maybe if you could program something to mark a caller as spam, always forward to vm, or send not in service.
Everything looks great, but that would make it crazy cool for me

Do you know if the SMS messages sent from the app count against the SMS plan from the service provider, or will these messages be sent over the edge/wifi/3g so the SMS plan on the phone is not used ?

so let me see if I understand this. GV Mobile dials GV, which sets up the call as it normally would, namely it calls you (over AT&T) and then calls the person you want to talk to (over the GV network), so you eat up AT&T voice minutes while you use it. Do I have this right?

Correct. However, you can configure it to ring one of your other phones, so if you’re sitting at your desk at work, you could have it ring that line instead. (iPod touch users will have to choose another phone anyhow.) When GrandDialer was still working for me, that’s what I did. The outgoing call shows my GV Caller ID. On a landline, that basically means free nationwide long distance.

Yeah, but this functionality built into a Gizmo client would be sweet. (Never mind that I have more rolled-over AT&T minutes than I can possibly use.)

Actually, it would most likely be the other way around. A SIP client would be built into the Google Voice app. That would make far more sense as then you wouldn’t be tied to Gizmo. You could use whatever SIP account you wanted.

GV Mobile sounds awesome, I’ve been waiting for app like this. I was disappointed when grand central had no more numbers to give out, after downloading Granddialer. Can you please let me know when GV Mobile will be available? I would definitely apreciate it. Quick question, how can I get a google phone number?

I do believe Google is doing contests or similar for Google Voice #s. Otherwise, I think they will open it up soon…

I check app store 50 times a day for this app. Will they let you know prior to releasing it? Should I stop checking app store and just check here for notifications?

at present, best (only?) way to get a google voice account is to buy one…perhaps on ebay or craigslist…i would recommend buying a grand central account that is available for upgrade but not yet upgraded–if you buy an account that has already been upgraded to gv then it is attached to an email account which can’t be changed. i bought one account on ebay, another on craigslist…one for 39 bucks, the other for 50.

also, question: will gvmobile support multiple gv accounts? i have a nashville # and a pittsburgh #, and would like to use both via the gvmobile app?

Sean, have you considered adding an integrated SIP client that could receive calls?

This would make it possible to use GV Mobile to make calls with Google Voice over WiFi. I just figured this out, so forgive me if this is well known.

Here’s how it would work:
1. Signup for a free Gizmo5 account.
2. Configure the Gizmo5 SIP phone number as an additional phone in Google Voice.
3. If GV Mobile had an integrated SIP client that could receive calls, it would be configured as a SIP client for the user’s Gizmo5 account.

From the user’s perspective:
1) The user would use GV Mobile to initiate a Google voice call using the Gizmo5 SIP # as the calling #.
2) Google Voice would then call the Gizmo5 SIP number which will ring GV Mobiles integrated SIP client.
3) The user answers the call and the call is placed as normal.

I have read that there are open source SIP client engines available.

In regards to my last post, this process would require a SIP client integrated into GV Mobile as the SIP client must be the running application in order to receive a call. I.e. it would not be possible to use GV Mobile and another iPhone SIP client app to receive the call as GV Mobile is the running application when placing a call.

Sean: Just downloaded GV Mobile from the Store. Great App! Suggestion: make the erase key delete the whole number by just holding down the erase key. Multiple tapping not so good. (Keep hitting the Settings key).

Love it! Wish I could receive text message with it.

Noticed that the free version includes a category for “Call Log” which has the setting “Dial on Click”. The free version doesn’t seem to include the call log feature.

More importantly, half the time I use it I get the message “Google Voice refused to make the call…” Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Naturally, I’ve checked everything, and since half the time it does work, well, I can’t say it’s me.

Additionally, the error message should read “you’re trying to call AN incorrect number”, because “an” is used when the following word begins with a vowel.

If this thing worked consistently it would be a great hit. Right now, swing and a miss.

I’m also getting the message “Google voice refused make the call…”. I haven’t been able to get my fist call through, and I got the paid version.

Thanks for creating this, glad it exists! But I’m having the same issue, pay version refuses to make calls… says it may be an invalid number to call from, so i have a question – in the setup, what exactly are you supposed to put in that field? I signed into my GV account fine, it knows my forwarding numbers, etc — but I don’t know what I’m supposed to put into the ‘Phone number to call from’ field that will be valid. Should that be my iPhone number? or my assigned GV number? or any number? etc… please clarify! Thanks!

hmmm. just now tried ‘priming’ phone as instructed – sending an SMS to my cell number – and I got a reply from some random number in Montana – “Who is this?”… now kind of afraid to try again. weird.
