    I am still wondering why no one, Sean, nor Google, has responded about the “invalid credentials” issue. Nothing to say “that’s the way we want it”, “we are working on the problem”…..or even the statement per the usual – “there is no problem”, LOL.

    Can we get some word on this and if it is repairable; from anyone?

    I’m also unable to log in and getting the “invalid credentials” error. My password has no non-alpha characters, so I’m experiencing other issues. Thanks!

    “invalid credentials” has been corrected with the Cydia version. I removed the app I had that was giving the error, installed the Cydia version and it works.

    I changed to a password with all alpha characters and still get the invalid credentials error (works fine using the web interface on the phone).

    Hope there is a solution, I love using the app (so glad I bought it before it got pulled). Without it, it makes a big difference in how much I like/love my iPhone.

    FYI: After reading the latest posts (10-15-09 at 18:34 (#50)), here’s what happened to me:

    (My iPhone is jailbroken and running FW 2.2.1

    1. Removed app store version
    2. Installed Cydia version
    3. I logged in without running into the “invalid credentials” problem. Thought I was out of the woods, but…
    4. As soon as I touch any of the options at the bottom (voicemail, history, or SMS), the iphone automatically exits out of the app back to the springboard. This does not happen when I touch to bring up the “keypad” screen.

    Given my limited base of knowledge, it seems to me that my problem is occurring because for the voicemail, history, or SMS options, the app has to connect to Google in some way in order to retrieve the history, voicemails, etc., and that when it does, Google has worked some kind of black magic to force the app to exit.

    Has anyone else had this specific problem? Does my analysis make sense, or is there an easy fix that I am not considering? Any thoughts would, of course, be very much appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Thank you, Anonymous–I forgot to mention that I cannot successfully dial out from the dial pad, either.

    Also, this is interesting: once the forced exit happens, when I select the app from the springboard again, everything appears as though it were my first time entering the app (no credentials are saved, and the “it seems that this is your first time using GV mobile” pop-up immediately appears).

    Hopefully this has provided some more useful information. Thanks again to everyone for their time.

    Sorry, just to be slightly more specific…

    When dialing a number from the dial pad, it is unsuccessful (as I mentioned), but there is no forced exit. The dial pad screen just looks exactly as it did after I keyed in the number but before I pressed “call”.

    Also, my iPhone is a 3G. (Anonymous mentioned his was a 2G.) Again, however, we are both running the same FW, which is 2.2.1.

    Hi there.

    Ok so I have GV Mobile installed and 3G Restrictor. I have set up google voice and put my number in my A-list. Someone mentioned att still sees this as minutes used but I dont understand what they mean by dial your google voice number and hit 2? I do that and nothing happens.

    A video for all of this would be the icing on the cake

  12. Aleic
    October 16th, 2009 at 00:05

    I did a test incoming call and my GV number showed up with a code NW which is nights and weekends. It should be M2AN which is the code for A-list.

    Ideas?

  13. October 16th, 2009 at 04:31

    Anonymous, here’s a solution that works consistently:

    1. Use the app “Backgrounder” so that GV Mobile is “always enabled”

    2. Open Safari, and go to the Google Voice Mobile page. Login.

    3. NOW, open GV Mobile. Go to settings, and login. You will see something at the bottom that was not there before (the app is syncing with Google Voice).

    Since Safari (by default) and GV Mobile (through Backgrounder) are now still running even if you exit to Springboard, GV Mobile will continue to work as long as you keep the Google Voice Mobile page open on Safari.

    (If you log out of the Google Voice Mobile page and then try to use GV Mobile, the app will appear to work (i.e., not exit unexpectedly) but I couldn’t make calls, etc., so that appears to be out of the question. Also, by signing out of the Google Voice Mobile page on Safari, you’ll notice that the new addition to the GV Mobile “Settings” screen will have disappeared. It also will not be there if, for example, you did a reboot, then started GV Mobile before going to the Google Voice Mobile page in Safari and logging in there. If you did that, you would have to force quit GV Mobile and then go back into the app.)

    I have little idea as to why this works. It was more of a personal challenge for me to get it to work than it was an attempt to really understand why it works. It’s not the best solution in the world, I suppose, but it’s not really oppressive to do every now and then, either, if you really would like to use GV Mobile with Mr. Kovacs’ user-friendly (and much cooler-looking) interface.

    Now, back to the work I was using all of this as an excuse to avoid…

    @Aleic When did you make the call because NW supercedes all else. My weekday calls from my Google account are all M2AN.

    Up until earlier this week, I had no problem with GV Mobile working on my iPhone…until ‘Invalid Credentials’ reared its ugly head. I LOVE THIS APP and use it DAILY. Is it ever going to work again, or has the $2.99 I spent run its course and am I left with a now-useless app on my main screen? Please get a reply up online ASAP, I beg you!

  16. October 16th, 2009 at 22:36

    I love this App i have been using it for some time now. After the update to 1.22.1 I am no longer able to dial out. I am also getting the random closing out issue many have mentioned. Basically I have it running pretty stable now, I can access Vm and SMS. But when i dial a number it looks liek it is making the attempt but it never dials into my iphone. I found the same to be true from the GV home page but ONLY when accessed through my IPhone. From the google voice site I select the number I want to dial it says connecting to you and then eventually it stops no failure no error, just never dials in. From the GV app is says Dialing and then nothing ever happens. HELP I love it I NEED it. Its an answer to a dream and the slaying of a twoheaded beast! (Att/Apple)

    HI, J.Smith, thanks for your work. my case is little different cause my phone is 2G. I did not see any new additions on the settings of gv mobile.
    I installed the backgrounder. I didnot put gv mobile into the background. I opened the safari and logged into my google voice account. Then I opened the GV mobile, now it can load and refresh. I can dial out numbers too. The google voice page doesnot need to be the current page in safari. As long as there is a safari webpage has you logged into the google voice account, GV mobile will work flawlessly. If I close the google voice page in safari, GV mobile stops working. just weird. Hopefully it can be fixed in the future release.

    I had the paid version of GV Mobile(from apple store) until recently when like quite a few folks here I started having credentials error. Solution was to delete the app I had and reinstall the app from Cydia. Problem solved.

    I m on 3G iPhone version 3.0 jailbroken,

    @J. Smith
    Now it is getting interesting. I uninstalled the backgrounder and closed the safari google voice account loggedin page. GV mobile still works. I rebooted my iphone and GV mobile still works!!! It seems that after the syncing with google voice, GV mobile fixed the problem by itself. I really do not know what has happened. J. SMith, did you try GV mobile after you close the safari page?

  21. Christopher
    October 17th, 2009 at 21:38

    @J. Smith
    When I enable backgrounding for GV Mobile, I more often than not have to kill the process, as after a while, it refuses to background (or even disable backgrounding) and let me back to the springboard. Have you experienced this?

    Running fw 3.0 iPhone 3G jailbroken , unlocked

    I first had the app store paid version of gv mobile. A few days ago I started having invalid credentials error.

    I removed the app store version and installed the cydia version, credentials problem was solved.

    I look at the $2.99 that I paid as a donation to this wonderful piece of software

    GV Mobile was working on my JB 3GS 3.1.2 the other day and now it doesn’t. won’t dial out and the sms feature isn’t sending messages. I can, however, receive text messages as they forward to my phone. I also get calls forwarded if I dial my gv number. but the app itself won’t allow calls to go out or sms to go out. any thoughts??

    I am so very annoyed. This is a great tool and beause of AT&T it cannot be used! I suspect that Google changed something in the online version of Google Voice so that the GV Mobile app cannot logon anymore, as I suddenly get ‘Invalid Credentials’ when I try to open it, whether or not I am logged on via Safari. I can still use Google Voice through Safari,but WOW, what a pain in the ass. I hope beyond all measure Apple breaks this stupid exclusivity agreement with AT&T and moves to a network that can actually handle a smart phone. BTW, I hear an Android phone will be available on Verizon with Google Voice (app) installed. Maybe Google is the bad guy here, but most probably it’s an accuulation of all three!

    GV won’t even start for me, really. Jailbroken 3gs 3.1.2 – can enter my email addy & p/w then get a “page not available error”. Uninstalled, reinstalled, rebooted…..same. And I can’t access GV via Safari, either, so I can’t try that patch fix. Bummin me out, as GV Mobile was one of the main impetus’ for me jailbreaking in the first place.

    I have just recently had the same issue. My phone is not jailbroken and I got the app before it was removed from the store and though it was working before, it now tells me I have invalid credentials, I hope this can be fixed without an app update!

    @Joel

    Sir you have it all wrong. Please do some research before blaming AT&T but the gv app being remove. Infact sir AT&T doesn’t care about the app. If you had read the letter from the FCC to Apple forcing apple to explain why the removal of apps that offer google voice; you will see that It is all APPLE’S doing. Apple claims it copies some features from the original iPhone os. Which I think it’s all BULL. So blame your wonderful APPLE for this. Never been a Apple fan and now with this it’s worse. Apple can kiss *****£*£. they want to control how there wonderful device is used and run. Place it on my hand for free then tell me how to run it. But I pay for the phone and still pay for the service. I’m so freaking piss at Apple. What a bunch of monopolis. Like they cry to Microsoft of doing. They are worse.

  32. Brad

    I can’t sign in. I’m ticked off. I paid for the app, I expect it to work. I don’t want to jailbreak my phone to get what I paid for. I’m tempted to do a chargeback on my card. Sean, you might be a great person, but Apple is screwing you and me, and I’m sick of whatever games Apple is playing. Perhaps someone should sue Apple?

  33. Anonymous
    October 24th, 2009 at 22:02

    @AnonymousYou are right, but for God’s sake learn how to spell! And as for the sueing, i.e. class action suits, only lawyers walk away with the big bucks. It still baffles my mind why Sean hasn’t weighed in on this “invalid credentials” nonsense.

    October 25th, 2009 at 16:40

    Another pissed off customer who bought his first paid app on the iTunes store, only to have it yanked and no longer work. I was willing to drop money on this on the promise it would continue to be updated as Google worked out the details, but clearly that won’t be happening.

    How do I go about making this work again? Jailbreak time?

  35. October 26th, 2009 at 19:29

    The reason for GV Mobile no longer work on non-JB iPhones is because Google changed the login API, I confirmed this with Peter Sichel who makes Phone Amego for Mac (Google Voice dialer app)… The solution seems to be to Jailbreak and use the newer version…

    I’m a n00b to GV. I have a Google Voice account and an iphone 3gs running 3.1. Now, to use gv mobile to call people, do i need to have a rate plan through at&t with minutes or do I just need a data plan with an internet connection? This might be a dumb question, but I just want to know if I can get rid of my minute plan that I’m paying 39.99/month for and just keep the iphone data plan and be able to call and receive calls

  40. Stan
    October 28th, 2009 at 21:21

    @Marty
    Yes, you have to have a rate plan to use GV Mobile. The way it works is GVM is simply an interface that makes a call to your google voice account telling it what number you want to call, and what number you are at. The google voice account calls you on your selected number, you answer it, and then it rings your intended recipient. The actual call takes place on your service providers plans.

  41. Marty
    October 28th, 2009 at 23:54

    @Stan
    So then other than Voicemail transcription and some other features, what is the real point of using it? Also, is there any word on when I’ll be able to “port” my original at&t number to GV so when I call people from it, it won’t show up as my GV number. I want just one number for everything, but I guess with some of the features of GV.

  42. Stan
    October 29th, 2009 at 18:10

    @Marty
    I can’t tell you why you might need it, but this is what I use it for. I have custom voicemail depending on if a person is on my friends contacts, family, or business. I save money on a text plan, with gmail push and reply by email it’s kind of a workaround but doable. I also have a searchable archive of my voicemail and texts as well as an unlimited call history.

    Also, even if I have to relocate across the country, I will still have the same number so my contacts wont have to update me. I think they have a moto like one number for life or something like that.

    As to porting your number to Google Voice, it looks like something they plan on according to this link http://www.google.com/support/voice/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=115102 they have a “tell us if your interested” link, so click it and let them know.

    I want a refund. Who do I get it from Sean or Apple???? I’m not going to jail break my phone. I believe Apple is responsible since they sold the app and then pulled it and wrecked it. I’ve never requested a refund, but I certainly will in this case. It’s not the money, it’s the principle. The consumer shouldn’t pay the price for Apple’s change of mind. This is the reason my next phone will probably be an Android phone.
