GVDialer != GV Mobile

April 8th, 2009

GVDialer is NOT GV Mobile. As much as I hate giving this other app, publicity, I hate seeing people pay $10 thinking it’s my app, GV Mobile. My app, GV Mobile WILL BE $2.99 when it hits the App Store. For those curious, GVDialer ONLY dials via your Google Voice # – it has no SMS, voicemail, GV call history, etc. My free version will do what it does!

    that app is garbage.

Very helpful. Thanks for the heads up Sean.

i’m more than a bit concerned for the future of the premium app at this point. i have this terrible feeling that AT&T is going to crush this for the SMS capabilities alone. essentially, the sms capabilities alone threaten their $15-$20/month text plans. here’s to me crossing fingers though.

  4. April 8th, 2009 at 11:41 | #4

@Ethan It really won’t. Apple already approved Skype – free dialing. What is a bit of free SMS sending going to hurt?

  5. April 8th, 2009 at 11:46 | #5

@Ethan I’ve been thinking the same thing, but didn’t want to mention it.

  6. April 8th, 2009 at 11:50 | #6

@Sean, there are already a bunch of free SMS apps in there.

  7. April 8th, 2009 at 12:08 | #7

@Andrew Warner Ah…very good. No worries gang! In time…if it goes another week, I’ll write good ol’ Steve an email – that always works! :) I think it’s actually part of the approval process… Step 50) Did dev send Steve a complaint? Yes-Instant Approval: No-Maintain holding pattern.

GVDialer for $9.99??? Ridiculous. Look at it’s reviews so far. One Star(s). Seems obvious both reviews were placed from a programmer or two (or his friends) to “hint” at a soon to be approved (hopefully) application we all want to purchase. I’d agree GVDialer deserves one star however, it’s not much more than GrandDialer was, which at least was reliable for me.

  9. April 8th, 2009 at 12:25 | #9

@Mischievous My wife actually told me about the reviews. I would not spend $10×2 to just get the word out. lol

$10×2 for beer for buddies? J/K. Patiently waiting for GV Mobile. :)

P.S. Congrats on making lifehacker, gizmodo, etc.

  13. April 8th, 2009 at 12:50 | #13

@Kingoftowns I’m sure it was submitted weeks ago without notice. I check my email 20 hours of the day hoping to see that Apple approved it!!! Hehe. I do see activity coming from Apple though.. :)

@Mischievous While you remain to be a pain in my ass, thanks! Couldn’t have done it without the help of Adam Weiss and my bud Jake! Take that as a compliment. :)

Waiting (im)patiently for yours, thanks for the heads-up! Now can anyone tell me how to reply to an email addressed to my GC email that will appear to the recipient as coming from my GC email? Thanks

believe me, If I would be you , then I will upload the app to Cydia if apple is not approving it. and I think its the time you should do that.

  16. April 8th, 2009 at 14:18 | #16

@Pankaj Kumar Good thing you’re not me. Apple is not rejecting it, they just haven’t approved it. Big difference.

Thank god I looked here. I was getting ready to purchase that program thinking it was yours but I remember reading it was going to cost $2.99. Thanks for the heads up! I can’t wait because I love my GV… I loved it when it was Grand Central.

  18. April 8th, 2009 at 14:28 | #18

@KTJCPCM I’m glad I saved someone else from wasting $9.99! It should be released soon…

    April 8th, 2009 at 14:41 | #19

I know its a big difference, but they are taking too much time. don’t u think so. and as u can see they have approved GV Dialer and its on no use. and ppl are even buying it because they think its your app.

  20. KTJCPCM
    April 8th, 2009 at 15:02 | #20

@sean I’ll be happy to spend the $3.00!

    April 8th, 2009 at 15:03 | #21

    @KTJCPCM
Yeah me too. even I can spend $5.00 . because think of GVdialer and its $10 and have no features.

  22. April 8th, 2009 at 15:13 | #22

@Pankaj Kumar Well – I think the whole approval process needs changing. It does take too long, but it’s only been 5 full business days for premium and 8 for free. Most developers are waiting weeks or months.

  23. Pankaj Kumar
    April 8th, 2009 at 15:15 | #23

maybe thats true. but still I am thinking how can GVdailer get approved so fast. I didn’t even heard of it before its approval.

    April 8th, 2009 at 16:43 | #24

I bet if you jacked the price up to 10 bucks apple would get it out the door real fast. Put it on Cydia, you can sell it there.

  25. Gscott
    April 8th, 2009 at 18:12 | #25

Will you be able to respond to SMSs from the app or only online/SMS app?

  26. April 8th, 2009 at 19:25 | #26

@Gscott The app currently only sends SMS – if one of your enabled forwarding phones is a cell phone (e.g. iPhone), then the reply will go to it. An future upgrade will allow an iPhone style SMS interface for sending and receiving.

  27. April 8th, 2009 at 20:49 | #27

the ability to receive SMS’s is the key in the door for me buying the Premium version

Still waiting!!! @Sean, How about another contest? This time a guess at how many downloads GV Mobile will have at the end of the day of it’s initial release?…

    April 9th, 2009 at 01:46 | #30

This is a joke, you hear it dialing the number like a freakin modem..and it dials sooooooooooo slow. It doesnt understand my contact groups (on the phone) , only the ones OUTSIDE of the groups.

  31. April 9th, 2009 at 07:08 | #31

@Task You get what you pay…wait. I thought buying the cheaper product was supposed to suck? I better change my price… :)

  32. Cozmo
    April 9th, 2009 at 07:41 | #32

Still no word from Apple? Did they ever mention how long the additional testing would take on the Premium App?

  33. April 9th, 2009 at 08:32 | #33

@Cozmo Apple leaves you completely in the dark on the approval process…

  34. April 9th, 2009 at 09:51 | #34

Like everyone else I’m patently waiting Seans product. I hope he can send us all a text or email when it becomes available so I can stop searching itunes for it. The genius Sean should be busy developing and testing the 2nd enhanced improved version. I’d be happy to beta test. You Rock Sean

GVdialer is now listed at $2.99 on the app store. They must be adjusting knowing seans product is coming and from all the complaints

  40. April 12th, 2009 at 15:43 | #40

@sjjones Haha – it needs to be free. Even free, it won’t compete with my free version…

Unfortunately, with the gv mobile app is only for iphone. i have a nokia running symbian. with the app store’s adoption of a google voice client, gvdialer, even for the symbian, is no longer available… sad sad sad
