GV Mobile + on Cydia
It’s out folks. Go consume it and enjoy. It’s on the ModMyI repo.
Thanks to Kyle and Jay for getting this all set up.
What are the changes you ask:
Well, first, it cost money. Yeah, I know, I hear ya – but everything in life isn’t free.
Changes/Updates:
+Favorites
+New tab system for Contacts, Favorites, Keypad
+Landscape SMS
+Call & Add Contact from SMS main view
+International support for SMS (until Google blocks it)
+Call, Text, & Add Contact from History
+Voicemail transcriptions, new voicemail screen layout
+Call, Text, & Add Contact from Voicemail
+Local archiving of voicemail (doesn’t download every time)
+Offline dialing (via dialing GV #)
+Default Area code (for those that don’t need to dial the area code in you area)
+More data sync options (Interval, Startup, Startup on demand, manual)
+Multiple Accounts
+User selectable tab to open to
+More Google Settings : Do Not Disturb, Call Screening, Call Presentation
+The core of the updates reside in the back end programming of the app – completely rebuilt from ground up.
Update:
Two quick things:
1) The icon is squared, but OS does round it. I can assure you something 3rd party is turning this off. However, I will update it.
2)The icon shifted up, down, left, right. See 1. I can’t fix this because if I manually shift the graphic up in the PNG, it will be shifted up for all those that don’t have this issue. I’ve had beta testers install via a legal ways (Adhoc) and I’ve installed it via Cydia and another method and the icon is simply fine.
If someone can educate me on #2, that would be great.
i bought the app and it wont start. it shows the loading screen and then it goes back to the icon screen….help!
@Egypt
There was a typo in the original post (http://voicegrowl.posterous.com/voicegrowl-and-gv-mobile) about Prowl redirections, I wrote “Google Voice (Voicemail)” when it should have been “Google Voice (VM)”
Does that help?
Hi there, nice app – Worth it just for landscape mode
Would it be possible to update the History screen with incoming/outgoing call icons like on the non+ GV Mobile app?
Right now, incoming/outgoing calls are only differentiated using different colour fonts, and I won’t be able to remember what colour means what.
A comment/bug report: the offline dialing is hit and miss for me. Sometimes it says the phone number is invalid, but if I restart the call, it works.
Is there a way to actually have contacts show up on your phone as it does on android. Right now it only shows my google voice number when somebody calls it.
@T3h Ub3r K1tten
I cant say it did because i was talking about the SMS part..
I just noticed something – if you use offline dialing, your Voicemail (VM) Pin shows up in your recent call history. This is somewhat of a security problem. If this problem is unfixable, or difficult to fix, you might consider just displaying the VM Pin in the settings screen in plain-text, instead as *****, just so people know how vulnerable their VM Pin is using GV Mobile.
It crashes to the homes screen, when I click the Favorites tab for contacts every time. Could someone help me solve this problem? I hate searching the number through all the contacts, and really like the Favorites feature…
@Juanelo
I’m having the same exact problem. I can’t get past the loading screen before the app crashes. I’ve removed the app and tried reinstalling, but it still crashes.
Just bought the app, it’s awesome! Thanks! Question, is there a way to make it do offline dialing with other apps, such as skype? If I want to place a call through google voice & skype as it stands now, I get skype running, enable my gizmo sip phone to ring in gv mobile, place the call, quickly hop over to skype and answer. The call quality suffers because it is being forwarded through gizmo. But with offline + skype, that would really rock! Keep up the good work!
@Anonymous Email me. I have another person with this problem.
@Erik Email me.
@Francis Nothing I can do about this.
Epic app, dude.
Great update to this app! I really like the new features and nearly everything works fabulously. One little problem, though: in the SMS screen on portrait mode, I can’t see what is being suggested by autocorrect, and if what I’m typing scrolls past the second line, the text doesn’t scroll to see what I’m typing. Please don’t say “use landscape.” I’ve been using the iPhone since the beginning, so I have always used portrait, and can type much faster that way.
Great great update. Its working great from me so far except one little issue.
When I try to update the “phone to dial” (it shows my GV number) then click save, the app closes and the number remains the GV number.
I have tried the following:
1.) Removed this and the previous version of GV and reboot.
2.) Reinstall only the GV Mobile+ reboot
3.) Open app and all settings are correct except the number to dial.
4.) Edit number to dial
5.) Click save
6.) App closes.
7.) Open app and number is still the same.
Thanks Sean!
@Rohit
You should be able to change that in your Google Voice Settings. There is an option to show their number or your google voice number. If you have teh google voice number show up you want to turn on call presentation and call screening. : )
Solved my own problem. Looks like it was just me. : )
Basically I was trying to edit the number listed and instead I just needed to hit the plus and add the correct none GV number.
It may still be worth looking at why it closes the app when you hit save but it is nothing that will prevent functionality. : )
In fact if you edit any number already listed and select save it will close the app not saving the update.
Hey Sean,
I’m having the same problem as Erik and Anonymous – the app crashes at the splash screen. I sent you an email about this earlier today, but thought I’d leave comment here as well. Let me know if there’s anything I can try to do.
I’m getting a 500 internal server error after purchasing..and after I restarted Cydia I got the option to purchase..again. Reinstalling modmyi’s repo didn’t help.
What should I do?
Never mind. I was able to purchase the app successfully.
One sentence: Mr. Kovacs, you are a god among men. If/when Push is implemented, this will be one of the greatest apps ever made.
Hi Sean thnx for this update, GV Mobile+ is a great app. How can I configure it to make WIFI calls though? I am currently using this configuration, Iphone + GV Mobile + Sipgate + Fring. However, trying to use GV Mobile+, it keeps prompting for a 4 digit pin. What to do?
Will this app ever be available for free? I am not able to purchase anything online…
@Jeff
I’m using Rock too. How can I get and install GV Mobile+?
Is there a way to install via command line?
Thanks
been using the other version for some time, loved it. + version is fantastic. glad to support your efforts. Thank you!
when trying to use the offline calling with gv mobile +, I always get an error which says wrong number or invalid number, but if i use the normal service i get thru, could you tell me what is wrong
When launching, it shows the loading screen, then crashes back to springboard.
All of a sudden gv mobile plus stopped working. I reinstalled and now I keep getting an error message saying it cannot find the magic key. Also my regular gv mobile (not plus) just crashes back to springboard.
I paid for this and I would like to be able to use it again. It is essential app for me. Please release and update to fix this or post a solution to the magic key error here. I did not use my real email on this post.Thanks very much.
I am having a similar issue as erik and anonymous. right when i load the app it works but as soon as i select SMS or voicemail it crashes the app.
when i try to dial out i get an error: Google Voice refused to make the call. This may be due to an invalid phone to ring or you’re trying to call a incorrect number. Please Verify the number and try again”

@Decent Rafi.
It happened to me to as of yesterday, nothing can make it work. I am using Voice Central’s instead, GV mobile sucks.
Anyone have any idea how to stop the Magic Key Error? This is a major hassle since I use this app all day everyday for business.
Hi Sean,
I am having the exact same problem. The app crashes whenever I click on a name in Contacts to add to favorites. Do you have a fix for this?
Wow am I honestly the first comment to this amazing article!?
@sean
Hi Sean,
I am having the same issue with the GV Mobile + App. It never enters the app and goes back to the Home Screen for my iphone.
Wow, this is frustrating. I’m trying to perform the seemingly simple task of handing over a couple bucks to see if GV Mobile+ actually works (since all GV Mobile ever did was blink and quit). 3GS, 4.0.1, otherwise functional jailbreak.
Trying to fork over the money via PayPal. “Purchase Package” takes me to the login page, but even with the magnifying glass to see the inexplicably squeezed login page, and trying a dozen times, making absolutely sure to get each keystroke correct, the login is repeatedly rejected. Logging in to PayPal separately (via laptop) with the same credentials works fine (repeatedly).
I’ll keep plugging away, but I’m way down Rapidlydiminishingreturn Street on this one already.
Sigh.
same prob
@johncy
I’m wlling to pay for the full version, but since the free version quits for me every time I try to access the voicemail or history I’m not going to spend money to find that happens on the full version as well. This was the one app I jailbroke to use.
Thanks for the mention of Voice Central. It’s a pretty slick option and far far faster than Google’s own offering. I’m using the free option but about ready to pay for it and remove the ads now that I know it works.
(my guess is that there’s a reason this app isn’t getting any attention or response, considering the number of people who’d like to use it)
