GV Mobile + v1.0.1 out…errr v2.0.2
Yeah, I know the first version of GV Mobile + was v2.0.10 or something, but it really should have been v1.
So this update fixes a couple of things:
+Potential issue with Favorites and Contacts (if you only had a Company filled in as a contact)
+SMS messages getting cut off in the Reply view (if super long)
+Editing the “Phone to ring” caused a crash
+Added a refresh of the Google Settings after switching accounts
+Rounded the icon
+Clicking on the History tab would cause a crash
I’ll try to get another update in before I move – yes, I’m moving.
Update:
Let me give you the low down… GV Mobile + should have been v1.0, but I left it v2.0.10 in the app, and Kyle set it as v1.0 on Cydia. So when the update came, I made it v1.0.1 in the app, and Kyle set is as v1.0.1 on Cydia as well. So it turns out Cydia’s upgrade breaks (obviously) if the update has a version number less than the previous version. Anyway, it’s being fixed now.
so how do i go about getting the update, when i launch cydia it does NOT notify me of any new updates to the program.
shall i go in and “reload”?
@kingoftowns
nevermind reload did nothing.
@kingoftowns I’m not sure. I just open Cydia, it did its thing, and I searched for GV Mobile and clicked in it. In there, you can see v1.0.1. Piece of cake.
@kingoftowns Not showing me an update either
@sean
yes it shows v1.0.1 in the version history but there is no option to upgrade the current version.
I am thinking this may have something to do with it being version 1.0.1 and the original being v2.0.1 perhaps wont let you upgrade to what seems to be an older version.
see above i am not the only one that cant upgrade.
thanks
Yeah, let me get with Kyle and figure this out. Sorry gang.
I had to remove GV Mobile + and reinstall it. I think maybe because the installed version number is higher than the new version number it’s messing up Cydia a bit.
Sean, The icon is rounded, but has no drop shadow which makes it sit lower that the res of the icons.
just saw the tweet that it is being fixed. thanks for the work Sean, much appreciated. will upgrade as soon as it allows me to in Cydia.
Sean,
Kudos to you for this great app that every GV user should have. One thing missing from the new GV+ is the “Dial on click” setting in old GV. In GV+, it’s as if “Dial on click” is always on. In fact, I prefer to be able to double check the number before I dial their numbers since from time to time I’d click on wrong area of a contact info.
@MoonBear Maybe it will make a return?
I prefer that as well.
Sean,
I think it would make the most sense to just have everyone reinstall it. The original was 2.0.10, so 2.0.2 would still not trigger an update. Or we can call this one 2.0.11.
I have a question for anyone who can answer it. On the new version of GV, you can setup the phone so that it dials directly without prompting you to answer a call from your GV number. I’ve tried to set it up, but it automatically sends me to my voicemail and it will not dial the number I intended to dial. Is anyone else having this issue? I’m I doing something wrong?
Thanks.
@Anonymous
Sean, please advise as to how we should upgrade…thanks!
Cydia sees its as 2.0.2, the app says 1.0.1, and you have to uninstall, then reinstall to get the update
I originally pirated GV Mobile + just to try it out and compare it to the original GV Mobile. I was very impressed with the update and felt it was worth the $1.99 Cydia Store price. So I went ahead and deleted the pirated version of 2.0.10 and purchased the 2.0.2 version from the Cydia Store. I look forward to future updates, Sean. Push notifications would be awesome!
Hey Sean, could you add a feature to give users the option of disabling vibrate on new messages? The push notification already vibrates, so the vibration when I go to read my message is redundant for me.
Not a huge deal though, there are plenty of other more important features to add first.
yay for the rounded icon lol
I second this. Would be a nice feature if I didn’t have prowl notifications, but the buzzer in my iPhone is annoyingly loud.
I third this!
Actually Kris, there *is* a drop-shadowed + reflection look that you see in Mail, Prowl, Twittelator and Skype type icon floating the theming community at *cough* XSellize (I hate that site for what’s USUALLY there). The icon is here: http://is.gd/6EX9E , the original post at XSellize is Post #17 here: http://is.gd/6EXgx
It’s pixel near perfect with reflective / 5 icon dock and even after upgrading to 2.02 I dropped this other icon back into the application bundle.
Maybe Sean should spiff shmi117 a copy in exchange for the icon.. of course shmi says that they remixed the default icon and just made it ‘pixel perfect’ in the first place…
I hesitate to do this, but there *is* an icon I use
Yeah. The icon is far better but it still looks out of place which is a shame for such a fantastic application …
would love if this could get fixed.
I understand the icon, and I can make it perfect, but it’s not right. All App icons are 57×57. They are mucking it up to 60×60 or 60×59. I’m trying to figure out what you guys are running that is screwing around with the icon sizes? Is it the theme application? ….Guess I’m going to have to pirate my own app to make sure of the icon placement – copying the IPA over and installing via Hackulous doesn’t count I suppose.
Thanks Sean,
I don’t know if this helps but I’m running 3.1 with Ultrasnow.
I’m not running any themes and all my other jailbroken apps: (cycorder etc) are working fine.
Yea – I purchased my own app. It does appear to remove the formatting Apple applies by default. Interesting… I’ll just bump it up I suppose and add drop shadow.
Anyone else having a problem with offline dialing disabled? I’m using the new version v1.0.1 which I downloaded just a little while ago. When dialing in this mode, it goes through the motions and then nothing happens. The green call button changed to red end, and then back to green call. Disabling offline dialing is the only way I can get it to make calls. I tried shutting off my phone and restarting, but it still works the same way. The old GV Mobile worked fine. Running 3.1.2 on my iPhone, jailbroken with blackra1n.
Working now… maybe there was a problem with Google?
Google has been having some issues according to some of my users. Best way to find out is login to the Mobile website and try to make a call. I say Mobile website because they do differ…
Looks to be an issue with login credentials. Quitting the application, and then re-starting caused the same issue. If I make a change to my account info and re-save each time, then it works. Maybe the app isn’t logging in correctly on startup?
Those are the steps I followed to update to v1.0.1.
Purchasing GV mobile+ along with prowl for $5 is quite a deal for unlimited texts (including international to peru). $1.99 is an amazing price point. Thanks Sean for creating and supporting this application.
@Ted
Hi Ted, how do you use GV mobile+ along with prowl, for making international txting? Can you show me the steps? I tried txting internatonally to the Dominican Rep. but it did not go through. Although I do not have prowl just yet, I only used GV mobile+
Larry hit on something important. While it doesn’t happen ofter (or at all for me), these tokens I store (up to two weeks before renewing) can be invalidated by some reasons (which I don’t know exactly). So it is possible that if something doesn’t work, or you get “An error…” message, perhaps your token is no longer valid. Re-logging in (in Accounts, uncheck your name, and re-check) might fix your problem…if it’s a token issue. Without meta-data from Google, I can’t really tell if the error reason is invalid token, so I can’t necessarily force a re-login. I could, but it might not actually fix anything.
Food for thought.
@krod
Prowl is only for push notifications has no relevance to the service. Unfortunately, the international texting is hit or miss from google since it’s not officially supported. However, my texts to peru have been working.
So I have uninstalled the initial release of GV Mobile+ because I wasn’t getting the update, then reinstalled. I am still at the initial version. Am I missing a step to get the update?
@Ted
Thanks Ted for the info. I’ll keep trying.
International texts were working almost perfectly to every country until just after Gizmo5 was bought by Google. Ever since then, it’s been extremely limited. France, in my experience, does not work at all. There’s a long thread about it in the Google Voice Help Forum. Unfortunately, there’s not much that you can do for now except hope that Google eventually realizes how important this is.
Hey Sean. What about us who bought GV Mobile from the app store and didn’t request a refund. Free GV Mobile+?
actually, I installed cracked one to test working fine on my iphone. SMS is working very well but ‘CALL’ is not working on my iphone at all(dialing then nothing happen or cancelled then error). So I tried to make a call via safari and other browsers, but still not working over both 3g and WIFI. When I clicked ‘call’ button, nothing happen but on my desktop, it is working very well.. I
In addition to the icon sitting low, it took a reboot to show up in Springboard at all. Also, try running Overboard. When activated, you’ll notice that the GV Mobile+ icon looks different than any other. It’s back to being square and looks larger.
I bought GV Mobile + yesterday. Worked great.
This morning tried to use it … and it quits a few seconds after I launch it. Halp!
@pudge Shoot me an email….
@sean
My problems seem to be gone today, and both dialing modes are working. Could be it was an issue with Google Voice. Interestingly, one of the dialing modes worked, and I could also text message, so I’m not sure that it was a login issue. Also, as I kept the old GV Mobile app, I tried dialing with that yesterday when I was having issues with the new app, and it had the same intermittant dialing issue. But for now, all is well. Nice job on the new app!
I keep getting an error that my login credentials aren’t correct when they are. I have 2 GV accounts. The one attached to my gmail account works great with this update but the one I use ALL the time that is attached to my .Mac account keeps giving this error.
Please help.

Any hope in improved the landscape orientation options? It’s great for texting except you have to be portrait (or use the menu sideways) for contact selection, which makes the flow a bit counter-intuitive.
What’s odd is that if in landscape and the contacts come up (via txting and closing), the list is in landscape mode but then gets switched back. Is GV Mobile FORCING portrait?
Is there anybody else having a difficult time using the original app (not the + version)? I can’t seem to be able to dial any phone number in my contacts. I can only use google voice “manually” by calling my own number, PIN and then dialing the phone number I need to call.
It used to work fine for me till today.
I think I got it working again. I had to reinstall the app a couple of times.
Is there a character limit cutoff in GV Mobile+? If I go over 140 or 160 characters will my message be sent in 2 parts?
Sean, great app.
“+SMS messages getting cut off in the Reply view (if super long)” – This also happens if you create a new message. I will be able to fill the field and then it will not scroll until I type in 2-3 more words.
Sending an SMS is a bit of a pain as I have to type in the number or scroll through to get to their name on a new message. Through no fault of your own, it seems that if I reply to an older message (time varies) they do not get my text so I have to create a new one. Going to SMS and new, I request a ‘favorite’ button. If that cannot be done, add a similar drill down menu that is provided when you click on a name in ‘history’ or ’sms’ to make a call or add contact to the Dial > Contacts > Favorite display.
Thank you for your hard work.
