Here are the steps to request an iPhone app refund:

    Launch iTunes
    Go to Purchase History
    Report a problem
Fill out the form with a legitimate reason for your refund request

When will this app be available outside US?
I have a Google Voice account and use an iphone when I’m in Portugal and of course, that iStore account is outside US…

What’s the deal? I paid for the app and it worked fine. Now it keeps denying my login.

Love the app. Great work Sean. One question, My iphone is the primary phone that rings when a call is made to google voice #. When I place a call with GV Mobile, the iphone rings then i click answer and it then connects to the # i was trying to dial. Is this correct, seems like an unnecessary step.

    @DAO351

DAO351, What you described is normal. I think the reason behind this extra step is to ensure that the person receiving the call sees your google voice number and not your actual cell number.

I’m having the same issue… anyone know why this is happening and how to resolve the issue? Any help is appreciated!!

Great app, thanks for building! It was working fine but more recently I’m getting an “invalid credentials” notice when I try to sign in. Credentials are fine and the same as when it was working before. The notice goes on to say, “There seems to be a problem with your username and/or password. Please re-enter your username and password in the fields provided on the Settings screen and try again.” I tried power cycling the phone to no effect. Any suggestions are appreciated!

  8. November 9th, 2009 at 11:48 | #8

I am having the same problem as jai and Bruce Colwin. Keeps giving me the credentials error. I love this app just doesn’t work anymore. Did Google block access?

  9. November 9th, 2009 at 21:15 | #9

Great job creating this application! Here’s a suggestion, actually a request, for an addition:

There are many of us using GV Mobile on unlocked iPhones with other carriers than AT&T. It would be great if we could use GV Mobile to automatically call my Google Voice number and then access the “contacts” on the phone to choose the number to call. This would allow easy use of Google Voice away from WiFi and give access to contact numbers while calling. Currently when I call my Google Voice number to make a call it asks for the number I want to call but I am not able to access my contacts to get the number.

The effect of the change would be seamless calling, in or out of WiFi with full access to contacts.
Is it possible to add another entry in “settings” to enter the Google Voice number for this purpose?

Thanks, and keep up the good work!

How do you get around the “Invalid Credentials” message on the paid app?

  11. Alvin
    November 10th, 2009 at 14:40 | #11

@Darrell, @Daniel, @Jai, @Bruce, and @everyone else that has been having this problem. If you look back, you’ll see that of the 13 pages of comments, collectively there are probably 11 pages of this same problem. And to my knowledge, Sean has refused to chime in with even a snotty “I don’t know”. I was one of his fans when he came out with this. But not any more. He’s been absolutely no help with this problem. I guess he’s satisfied with the cydia crew and not the rest of us. That’s OK. I still have my memory.

I ran into a problem with SMS. Whenever there is a message that failed to be delivered by Google Voice, the app would crash when I try to load the SMS tab on GV Mobile.

    @Bruce Colwin
I have the same problem. It worked fine until about a month ago despite it being removed from the App Store. I suspect that it was the last iPhone software update blocked it. Damn!

  15. Melinda
    November 11th, 2009 at 17:01 | #15

Sean explains this credentialing problem in his 10/26 blog. The app needs to be updated, but since the app store rejected the app (or put on hold), the update is not available unless you jailbreak your phone and download the app through Cydia.

For the time being, I have a window open in Safari on my iPhone that does my Google Voice work for me. It is, however, a pain in the @$$ to have to manually dial the number in that little box and not be able to use my contacts list. What a bunch of BS! C’mon, Apple! If you and AT&T are more interested in sticking it to Google than you are in making your paying customers WANT to keep you as their phone providers, or, bring back those who already have said to heck with you, than your problem is a lot larger than one simple app named Google Voice.

    November 21st, 2009 at 12:24 | #22

Awesome app! The only problem I’ve run into is it crashing or having problems logged in when there’s an SMS with an error. Basically, if you reply using the iPhone txting application and there is a red exclamation point next to a message, you must delete that message. Otherwise, it’s great! Thanks!

Import your contacts into GV then you won’t have to manually input all of the time.

Are there any plans to add SIP support? I have currently been using Siphon, GV Mobile (w/ Google Voice and Gizmo5) on my Ipod Touch 3G along with a Cardo BTA II bluetooth adapter which allows me to pair up a Plantronics 975 headset.

With this setup I am able to make free US/Canada calls and very cheap International calls all on the IPod Touch! (As long as I am near a wifi hotspot of course)

Google voice is setup to forward calls to my Gizmo5 SIP number. GV Mobile is setup to forward calls to my Gizmo5 SIP number and Siphon is setup to access my Gizmo5 account.

GV Mobile initiates the call which forward is to the Gizmo5 SIP number. The Siphon application on my ipod is setup to access the Gizmo5 SIP and it picks up the call. Would be nice to see all this complexity removed and have GV mobile do all the above. Possible?

I have a feature request. Could you make it where you can pick any song in your music library and have it be a ringtone for all incoming texts?
id like some way to get notified of incoming texts if that isnt possible.

  26. Dan
    November 24th, 2009 at 17:21 | #26

@Alex You can have the incoming texts forwarded to your gmail. Then, using the gmail push app, have it notify you of the emails you get as sms replies. The only thing is that all other emails that come to that account will come to you as push notifications too.

    December 2nd, 2009 at 21:07 | #32

    @ Llemma and Anonymous 12/1/09:

Check to make sure you don’t have your phone muted when you try to make a call. Sound needs to be on or GV Mobile won’t complete the call.

    December 4th, 2009 at 23:53 | #33

I wonder if something has changed with either Google Voice that has broken GV Mobile because I can longer connect after dialing using GV Mobile. If I dial from my FireFox browser window, it does however ring my TruPhone App. That makes me wonder if I’ve done something or Google has done something to break GV Mobile.

  34. kr
    December 8th, 2009 at 11:06 | #34

I’m having the same problem as mfortner, I also have to dial from a browser and I use TruPhone. However, I know it is not a sign-in problem as I am able to SMS and listen to voicemails from GV Mobile. It is a call placement problem :( Pleaaase let us know what is going on! I would pay for this app if it were fixed!!

Only request I have is to give us an option to turn on a pop up for text messages so it will pop up like the iphone text do and yahoo messenger
    does it too.
Or did I miss something on it?

  36. Angelb
    December 9th, 2009 at 18:30 | #36

You can use pop notifications by using this simple procedure. Have your text messages sent to email. Sign up for dopushemail.com by buying the app. It will push your gmail email with pop notifications and you can see the text once it comes into your phone and then you can respond to the text directly through your email and gmail would still deliver the reply. I am using this and have stopped using my tmobile sms.

  37. December 9th, 2009 at 20:03 | #37

I’m having the same issue where a call placed from GV app doesn’t ring my Gizmo clients on iphone. It’s strange that it doesn’t even work if I place a call via the mobile version of the Google Voice website (from safari on iphone). So it’s probably not Google blocking GV, but Google having problems on their side. Also, a call placed to a mobile phone via GV app goes through.

    December 11th, 2009 at 14:51 | #42

I’m experiencing the same issue with not receiving SIP dialed out calls. Google used to allow you to receive calls out at any phone. Now you can only receive calls out at one of your forwarding phones. My Gizmo5 account IS a forwarding phone. However, recently, when GV Mobile makes a call out directed to my Gizmo #, it sets the Phone to Ring as 1747XXXXXXX (X = my real phone number), and it doesn’t work. When using Google Voice mobile web page, I have to reset my Phone to Ring, and it sets the Gizmo number as +1747XXXXXXX.

    ….

Finally got the SMS error figured out. Created another Google email account and invited that account to Google Voice. Set it up and SMS did not cause GV Mobile to crash back to the springboard. Figured out finally that one of the SMS messages (Google Calendar Sync message) was causing the crash. Deleted it and everything is fine!

  47. Dan
    December 14th, 2009 at 16:44 | #47

I believe all these issues relating to hitting call, and nothing happening, has to do with the format or compatibility of “Phone to Ring” with changes by Google…as detailed in my post above…
