    When can we expect the following updates:
    1. Landscape mode
    2. Copy and Paste
    3. Moving cursor around in the typing field on existing conversations. Right now it only works if you initiate a new conversation.

    Feed back appreciated… Keep up the great work… Love the App

    @mike: I don’t know what will be addressed in the update, but Sean (within these comments) has said that there will be an update available on christmas. I guess will all have to come back and check on friday to see if he got it done on schedule.

    Feature request: is it possible for the GV Mobile to use notifications and display a badge when there is a missed call/call sent to voicemail, etc.?

    Hey, great app! I use it a million times a day (ok, so that’s a slight exaggeration, but seriously awesome). I know you’ve gotten a ton of requests on things to include and the like. All would be greatly appreciated in a future update. I’m not sure if it’s been mentioned, but perhaps add the ability to change what tab is displayed on open? I personally almos always use the texting part. If it would be possible to make the SMS screen the default (or any of the other windows) that would be awesome. Just something to think about for a possible add-on. :) thanks again for all the great work!

    Anyone find any workable solutions to getting push notification to work with gv mobile and iphone OS 3.1.2? I’ve tried the forward SMS to GMAIL (filtered an forwarded to prowl) solution, and it works except i can’t get prowl to push the message on the phone. To be clear, it receives the message and you can view it if you open prowl, but it won’t push it. I’ve check and it is turned on in settings and the “push fix” in cydia has not been effective (although I am able to receive push notification from the native SMS app. Thanks in advance for your help everyone!

    @Jeremy T
    If you have gmail, you’re half way there. Of course you need to set google voice to forward SMS to email like you already have it doing. The part I don’t think you’re using is gmail’s new ‘Gmail sync’ that enables push mail to your phone. Google that, and you’ll find out how to setup mail for google sync. Delete your Gmail imap account from the phone and replace it with google sync. When that is all done, you’ll be able to have push mail notification of a new SMS by way of a tone alert of a new email. When I get the tone, I just open GV mobile and reload SMS tab to see the new text. Hope you get it working.

    I am having trouble ringing Gizmo5 numbers. Using a regular phone is fine, but if I want to use the GV Mobile/Gizmo5 combo, the call goes nowhere. Any ideas? Is it a known issue?

    Using the free version of this, SMS works fine, but when I try to make a call, it says “dialing”, then returns back to idle (call button green with “Call” caption) without ever placing the call. Any thoughts?

    December 27th, 2009 at 04:40 | #13

    @AJ
    The way Google Voice works is that it places the call to you, and then to the party you are calling after you pick up the phone. Type the number, hit call, and wait a few seconds.
    When your phone rings, answer, and then the Google Voice service will call the number you dialed.

    Downloaded the app from cydia today. The Cydia page says it is a fix for the login, but I still can’t login. Am getting an error: “There seems to be a problem with your username and/or password. Please re-enter your username and password in the fields provided on the Settings screen and try again.” I’m assuming this was the error that was supposed to be fixed? If not, this isn’t working for me. I’m on a 2G running 3.0

  18. December 28th, 2009 at 23:36 | #18

    I’m having similar troubles as AJ — this app won’t “connect” to my phone number. It says that Google will call me on the connect number I gave it, and I’m to enter “99″ to authorize. Nothing. Wassup?!?!?!

    December 29th, 2009 at 02:53 | #19

    hey google voice is worth messing with (or you wouldnt have gotten this app) its definitely worth paying $2 more for an invite on ebay

  20. jay
    December 29th, 2009 at 03:04 | #20

    also…figured this wouldve been said…app wont work unless you have a google voice invite (still in the beta) which you can get at ebay for a pittanance (got mine form $1.78)…so if youve come this far might try a little farther…

    on the “Phone to Ring” section in the settings of GV mobile, add your cell phone number. This is how you can make calls via your ‘google’ assigned number.

    This is a GREAT app, I just wish Sean would update it with more features. :( I use it all the time, and absolutely LOVE it.

    One thing I’d like to be able to do is when you select + (to add a name for an SMS), or click the Phonebook icon, would be to choose between the local (iPhone) phonebook, or the Google Voice Contacts. Right now it only selects the local phonebook, and when I send an SMS, it’s showing the phone # instead of the name. :\

    Hi Sean,

    This app was great, worked fine for long. I am iPhone user who got this from APP STORE (before it got pulled out).
    I still have the app, but can not log in anymore. is this something blocked by Apple? can we make original app work without Jailbreak?

    Updated my firmware to 3.1.2 on my 2g and still getting the same login error. I do have a Google Voice account, which is what I’m trying to login with.

    Has anyone found a true way to use this program without having to use up your regular iphone minutes? I mean, what is the point of dialing from your Google Voice number if it still uses up your regular minutes. Is there a way around it? Please let me know I would totally appreciate it !

    @AJ and those having problems placing an outgoing call via a Gizmo5 number, the following thread might help: http://www.google.co.uk/support/forum/p/voice/thread?tid=372f8f2ab0bacfe7.

    Essentially, for whatever reason, making outgoing calls with GV Mobile that connect via your Gizmo5 number is broken. Get a free SipGate number (instead of your Gizmo5) and everything should go back to normal.

    Of course, all this only applies to those, like myself, who are trying to save their minutes by using GV Mobile in combination with Backgrounder/Fring/iSip/etc.

    The point of the google voice number is so that you can hide your real number and set up filters.

    I too bought this back before it was pulled from the App store by Apple/AT&T. I understand the issues but it’s been months since I’ve heard an update. Are we still waiting for the feds to review Apple’s and AT&T’s policies? Any news would be appreciated. Thanks, and Happy New Year!

    @David, I don’t know if this is the kind of update you seek, but if you google “GV Mobile”, you’ll see that v2.0 was recently released to select beta testers. Hopefully it will be available to the rest of the jailbreaking community soon via Cydia. In the meantime, keep up the good work Sean, I’m looking forward to trying the new version.

When I open ROCK, it states 401 Unauthorized. Cant find server. I have tried my Apple login, but that nor my Google login will get me anywhere. Any help out there?

    I just received my invite and have set up my account, great service! I have GV Mobile on my iPhone. I am curious – I might be canceling my contract with AT&T (husband keeping his) as I hardly make or take phone calls but I am curious, if I have no AT&T service or number, can phone calls be made using GV Mobile on my iPhone over WiFi?

    Thanks so much, keep up the great work!

  39. Joe
    January 11th, 2010 at 14:12 | #39

    @Andrea

    Google Voice still requires a cellular connection for its calls currently. Supposedly Google is integrating Gizmo5 VoIP into Google Voice some time soon so you’ll be able to make calls over Wi-Fi at that time. There are probably other VoIP solutions if you’ve got a jailbroken phone but none will be nearly as seamless as Google Voice with integrated VoIP.

    Thanks for this great App but seriously; it needs to be updated. There are only a few features that need to be added to this app (i.e. Push Notification) and I’ll gladly pay for that version. I’m actually really considering developing a Google Voice app just because this app is poorly supported.

    Just bought GV Mobile + from Cydia a couple days ago…nice upgrades from GV Mobile which I have been using heavily up to this point. Thanks Sean.

    Push notifications would still be great, but can set an interval check and run GV Mobile + in the background and get updates when new SMS or VMs are received. Nice that it recognizes local phone contacts instead of Google Contacts only. Open to last used page is great.

    My only wish is that you would make the “offline” dialing configurable. I’ve noticed that all I need to dial is…. GGG-GGG-GGGG, 2NNN-NNN-NNNN#
    Where G is my google number and N is the outbound number.

    Hey, this app is super awesome!

    Does anyone know of a free or cheap sip client that can take incoming calls and lets you use a dialpad during a call? Or is there any way to use the dialpad during a call with Fring?
